R50/53 cooper s gas cap
just read the how to on the mcs gas cap for the mc....my question is "why would anyone want that cap on the cooper? That is one of the design features I didn't like about the msc.....saw a billet aftermarket cap on a mc the other day and that looked really sharp, flush against the panel and not like it was just stuck on like the mcs,,,,anyway guess its each to their own and why there are so many different aftermarket choices....plus if I had a cooper, I sure wouldn't want to try to make it look like a msc, I'd try to be a little more unique given the choice, laugh!
Nolan - I understand your feelings - especially from someone who does not own a MCS and wants to create their own idenity from the MCS. But in another thought - why is putting a chrome gas lid on your car having anything to do with makinng your carlook like a MCS? In fact, I have one and in no way was I thinking of trying to imitate a MCS - and inn addition, I do have the S chrome side vents - for the only reason I sold my Moss chrome OEM ones off my car as they are sold out everywhere. In due time, I will take the 'S' off that grill and replace it with something more unique.
Basically - I think you said it best, to each his own. I really don't think you'll see people buy items that are on the S for the purposses of making their car an S. We have sold over a dozen gas cap kits to people who simply want more chrome - and that is an encouraging thought in itself.

Peter, I'm with you on this one. The chrome gas cap is one of the items (other than the supercharged engine and 6-speed tranny) that made me wish I had gotten the S! I think it really alludes to the MINI's racing heritage. If you look at the Classic Mini, it had a chrome lid, although it was much different than the S model chrome cap.
Like Peter also pointed out, chrome is another reason for getting the S model cap. The chrome details put MINI in a class by itself. Look at the other "retro" cars out there, and you will notice that with the exception of the MINI, there is very little chrome. MINI, of course, has historically been identified by its "smiling" grill. And that continues today on the Cooper. That's one area where I actually prefer the Cooper to the S.
And yes, I agree with you guys when you say "To each his own." I too bought the S grills, not because of the S, but because of the added chrome, and the base model grills were not available. I also got the clear repeaters, but only because they go much better with my clear taillghts. I am in no means trying to turn my car into a S model. I'm just customizing it to my liking. However, you won't see me adding a "Type R" graffic to my rear end to make it look like a racer from the outside!
Just my $.02. BTW, I highly recommend ordering from Rspeed! I received my items in about a week (in Hawaii!), and they were well-packed, came with complete instructions, and the invoice included their return policy, although I won't be needing that!

Just wanted to add my .02 here.....
I have seen Peter's MINI up close and in person.......
It looks great! The chrome gas cap detail goes great with the chrome door handles, chrome side grilles, etc....
IMO... the MC/MCS are all about personallity. So why not do things to make it your own!
Happy Motoring.
