Heat and panel issues

Hey just picked up my car from the insurances body shop. I drove it a while yesterday as a preliminary check and everything was ok. Today it starts heating up. I need ideas as to what may cause this, don't want them to keep my car another month while they diagnose it. I think it's the fan... I can drive it hard with AC on full and as long as air hits the engine nothing happens, but if I stop at a light or traffic: with AC on it heats up fast, with AC off the needle slowly creeps up. Any ideas?

Second question: I got hit on the right side of my car for pics check "MINI's almost fixed" anyway I'm pretty sure the gap between my hood and cowl isn't right it seems too long. Anybody know how to adjust this? hood hinges? hood guides? etc.

I'm taking it back monday morning so they can check it out, your ideas/comments would really help me out.
