R50/53 Exhaust Questions
Exhaust Questions
Im sure this has been posted a thousand times and i apoligize if it has, but i was wondering about positive/negative comments on any paticular exhauts. Borla and Alta have both been suggested to me but any extra comments would be lovely.

I've got an Invidia and absolutely love the aggressive sound and the wonderful burble and popping. =)
Minvader has the blue flame also, and on this link he posted a sound clip of both inside and outside the car:

Alta 2.5 here. Sounds good, no drone. Looks, not so great. One tip darkens and stains while the other stays clean. This was supposed to have been fixed, but not so. If I had it to do again, I'd probably go with the Invidia.
Alta is supposed to release a version with one oval tip. That will take care of the one tip getting darker than the other with the dual tip version. I don't know when the single oval tip will be ready. I am waiting for it though.
I paid more for this system than others I could have bought, based on Alta's name and reputation. They won't be getting another penny from me until this is resolved.
Oh yeah, this is NMgokart posting under scooter's log-in.
I had the Alta - sound was great. Much better than my current setup.
Fitment?
Quality?
Supposedly stainless steel, yet it's showing a ton of surface rust despite the fact that I had coated it with some Thermotech (silicone based sealant for exhaust wraps). Or particular note are the weld areas....quite a bit of rust. If you are buying it thinking SS gets you longevity - not the China/Taiwan sourced SS Alta uses.
Fitment - yeah, umm, no. Had to drill out the bosses to get teh hangers to work properly (they had moved during welding). Also, the set screws weren't long enough to do any good.
All and all....it's not a bad option. Then again, had I paid MSRP, I'd be pissed.

Another vote for the Milltek here. I installed mine last week and am very happy. It's a nice deep tone, no drone, and comes to life when you get on it. And it's made of stainless with a lifetime warranty.
Milltek is barely louder than stock. We had one on our Cabrio. If stock is 1 on the volume scale (10 being loudest), a Milltek is a '2', while the Alta is a '4'. My current Magnaflow/RMW header is a '7'
