Check the belt install routing before you buy a new alternator, or at least remove the alternator and have it bench tested.

honestly, it probably was a Katrina car, no carfax problems though, and it seems my hell is over with, my mechanic found an alternator and installed it today for $250 flat so I'm on the road, and I couldn't be more ecstatic. God I love this car.
