Difference between One and Cooper engine?

i had a little "oil" accident with my engine and it needs to be replaced.
i was looking at salvage places and found an exchange engine.

but the guy is not sure if its a cooper engine or a One engine. I need the cooper engine. and how can i find this out. Are there obvious things to look out for. Is there a serial number or part number somewhere.

i really would not like to make a mistake here and put the lesser one engine in my car. That would be really ridiculous (again). My car has been reprogrammed on cooper level and is putting down 126 hp at the crank
thx for the input

Isn't the VIN from the vehicle the motor was pulled from stamped on the motor itself? If so, you can read the VIN and figure it out from there.

See here to decode the VIN.

Good luck!

I've read that the only difference is the ECU program. The One is rpm limited for better economy, but less HP.

It's true. the only difference (in the engine) is the ECU program.

There may be a VIN on the engine, but in most cases, it is just the last six digits(sequence number) that are stamped on the engine, transmission, and frame. (At least that's how it used to be.)

so if i change the engine with an engine that was belonged to a downtuned one, and keep my ecu as its is, it will be triggered to work as a COOPER and not as a one....????

i mean with my current ecu tuning included it will put down practicaly the same hp and torque numbers on the dyno as before.
my car has 126 hp .
