I was traveling in Japan in June (while my velvet red MC was being birthed in Oxford) and spotted a couple of MINIs in Kamakura. They were on the move so I couldn't check them out too closely. I was on foot and couldn't catch up! Does anyone know if they are the same (other than the obvious right-hand drive) as the US MINIs? Just curious.

Basically the car is the same. A few differences based on the customs of a country. When I checked out the Japan site it looks like they do not have a glove box.

Here are the MINI models that will be sold in Japan.

MINI ONE
MINI Cooper
MINI Coopper S

The MINI ONE is the only car not sold in the US and Canada, don't know if they offer it in Mexico or further South.

My sister's boyfriend is a pilot (private jet) and when he was in Hong Kong and Tokyo a month ago he said there were tons of MINIs everywhere. He forgot to take photos for me though. They make perfect sense in countries where space is very limited for parking/driving/garaging. What a sight that must be, streets lined with MINIs.

I just got back from Japan last month, and I only saw 2 'real' MINIs... (I'll post the pic of the one I got on tape one of these days...) A velvet red, and an electric blue, both on their way up Mt. Fuji. But there are a LOT of classic mini-wanna be cars. I'm guessing that's what your sis's b-friend saw in japan. Because I was there for 12 days, and I saw a lot of look-alikes (further confused by the fact that they have many more models of cars then we do...), but only two actual. We did see an Opal and an Alpha Romeo (sp?) though... Japan is GREAT for car-watchers...
