2006 MCS auto oil change

Just wanted to check and verify that my oil change plug is the one I think it is. I have read a couple of the posts and did not see anything about the removal of a plastic cover that directs air to a small electric fan. The removal of the cover is necessary to remove the plug. Also, what is the small electric fan cooling?

Another question is the black oil pan, which I assume is the Automatic Transmission pan? Thanks for any responses. Richard

I just changed oil a couple of days ago in my '03 MC. The oil drain plug access was near, but not blocked by the aftermarket cover I had put over the power steering fan.

I would guess there is clearance for you to get to the plug.

The oil filter was kinda hard to deal with, being a cartridge type rather than an easy spin-on filter. I'm pretty sure step-by-step directions and photos are available here on NAM for oil and filter changing. Try a search. I used my Bentley Manual I bought a couple of years ago from Amazon.

Also changed to Royal Purple oil. I guess their advertising worked on me.

Not sure about a "cover". There is a duct that directs cooler air from the front of the car to the power steering pump motor. It takes all of about 15 (30 if you are having a bad day) seconds to remove the duct.

Yes, it is the pan for the a/t.

If you haven't done the job yet, here's the how-to thread with the pics:

I didn't move any fan cover or duct.... the drain plug is all exposed. Also, you might be surprised how far forward the plug is. I was looking for it way back under the block but it's not much of a reach from the front. My biggest issue was getting down UNDER that low chassis!

The later model MCS autos have the special ducting for the power steering fan that blocks the oil drain plug.
