R50/53 AC broken?
AC broken?
I have an 04 with 60,000 miles on it and my air conditioning quit blowing cold air. It has also started to make a very faint whistling noise when i try to turn the AC on. I am afraid the compressor is shot. Has anyone else had this happen? If so how much did it cost to have repaired? Thanks!
nvr had that happen to me, but you could always just have a mechanic look and see if u ran out of frion (the cold stuff in teh system) and maybe thats the sound is ur system without any
happened to me about a month ago -- still havent gotten it fixed. i had it estimated at $1500 from the dealer and said efff that. i havent had a chance to get someone else to look at it yet. i posted a thread about it in the issues forum. you should go check it out. some people had some insight. =)
mine's got a leak somewhere... dealer replaced the condenser and the
lines, they failed 4 times to fix it. the 134a refridgerant lasts about 2months
before it all leaks out so i decided i'll just keep filling it on my own.
here's a DIY on the recharge. it was posted in the stock issues/problems
thread but here it is:

i just used some generic Interdynamics recharge bottle with hose and
gauge. it was about $20 at Walmart.
here's some quick picts i took.
the arrow points to the low pressure side where the recharge hose clips
onto. there's a black dust cap on it (removed in this pict). just unscrew it.

per Greatbear's recommendations, i hooked up my thermometer to the vent.
this is just my volt meter with the thermometer sensor (thermocouple)
masking taped into the vent to monitor the temp.

this is the gauge that the recharge kit comes with... very easy to use.

1) started the engine (just idle), set the temp to "LO" and vented
out the top vent making sure the AC was turned on. (temp read 71F
which was the same as ambient temp
).
2) i connected the recharge hose onto the car's a/c valve and read the
gauge. it showed about 25psi. theoretically still within the correct
pressure, but blowing hot air.
(just pull back the sleeve on the recharge hose's blue connector,
push into the valve and then push out the sleeve to lock it onto the valve.
kinda like a valve on a tire).
3) anyway, proceeded and shot nitrous ahem.... the 134a
into my
ac system. i did about 10 sec, let off the button and read the gauge.
it was now at 26psi.
4) i read the thermometer... the temp started dropping!
5) i repeated the shot a few more times to get it consistent at about 29psi
remembering that it was better to set it lower than on the higher side.
my thermometer was reading 45F.
done.
took me maybe 7-8 min tops. im sure i'll have to recharge again in a
few months, but at least i learned how to do it.
pretty cool.

I have been search the threads for a few days now & Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I don't know what side is the low pressure for recharging the AC.
None of the pictures show up for me (they could be blocked because I am at work)
Any help would be appreciated & thank you for your time.
