Go to a MINI dealership w/ the VIN# and they will give you a printout of all the options and packages.

I bought mine used too, and when I took it to Baron MINI in KC, they gave me lots of details including every service record (it was also purchased there originally).

I think there's also an 800# if you dont live near a dealership.

Believe its a clutch type. but im not positive what Foctory LSD it came from.. If its from down south via columbia it could be a Viscous if you melted it on a spoon.

A cheap way without even picking up the phone is jack up the car and turn the wheels. Say you lift the front and spin the driver's wheel. If the passenger wheel turns the same direction, its a LSD. If it turns the opposite way, its open.

Jack the car up with the engine running, if you have an LSD your wheels should be spinning even without the car in neutral. If you stop one wheel, it should cause the other wheel to spin faster.

I would not recommend this. The jacking up of the car with the engine running makes me leary - it seems dangerous, since in order to get both front wheels off the ground you'd need to be jacking it from in front of the car - although I guess it could be doen safely with a lift. But even if it's lifted up safely, you should not try to "stop one wheel" while the engine is running and the car is in gear. That's just asking for injury.
