R50/53 Help install gone wrong
Help install gone wrong
!!!!Problem Solved!!!!
So I took the plunge and did my first mod on my car today. I installed an Alta air filter complete with silicone tube and housing.
The install went rather smoothly and the car was back together in short order.
Here's the problem after my test drive when I get back home my check engine light comes on. So I disconnect the battery for about a half hour hoping that the EDU will reset itself. (I forgot to disconnect the battery before I disconnected the ECU.
After the half hour time (I had gone to the store) I hooked the battery back up to try her out. She's running really ruff to the point of trying to stall out. And when I rev her up a bit she won't go past 2k rpm. I'm freaking out here, did I mess something up?
Any advice would be appreciative.

Don't know how. I installed the Alta CAI and never unhooked the battery. When pulling on the ECU module to remove it, it popped out suddenly flew up in the air and landed on the neighbor's concrete drive. I dusted it off and reinstalled everything and all's been well since.
You might try repeating the process of disconnecting the battery, and also unhook and reinstall the ECU module. Make sure it is completely plugged in. Did you unplug anything else? Is the silicone intake hose fully connected including the small connection on the side?
Also look all around the work area to make sure you didn't accidently do something else like loosen a plug wire off the coil pack, etc. There's a bunch of wires everywhere and it doesn't take much to undo something without noticing. I once replaced the plugs and reversed two wires. Ran bad for 5 seconds, ran better after checking and seeing what I did.

Check the hose aorund the throttle body - if it's not on properly then you might have a leak. Check the secondary line seal as well for the same thing.
Also, did you remove anyhitng else (especially the supercharger intercooler) while installing it? I had those exact same symptoms after I pulled off my IC - I had folded one of the rubber seals when reinstalling and made a vacuum leak.

Man I love this place..... I think I'll stay here forever.
10 mins after my post ToBFree nails it on the head.
I disconnected my battery and then re-seated my ECU plugs. And the problem is no more.
Thanks for the quick advice both of you.

Also... check the ECU cables - possible to get them on *almost* all the way, can result in some intermittant problems...
DOH... you posted "fixed" while I was posting the solution... which ToBFree had already nailed...

This is where I come for technical assistance. There's always someone who knows something. I installed the keyless entry auto-up board using pictures posted here. The instructions with the mod were Greek to me. The pictures spoke a 1000 words.
Glad everything went well! Now go out and enjoy that sucking sound.

Glad someone came up with the answer.
PS - the "Check Engine" will clear after 5 trouble-free starts as well - no need to reset your clock and reset your MPG saved data if you don't have to.
