R50/53 More Questions
Since I am asking questions, I want to ask about my stereo. I have the HK stereo. There are supposedly 8 speakers. I know there are two in each door, and there are two pannels in the back. Where are the other two?
Also, my brother was in the back seat and he said that the back speakers were not producing much sound. Is that the way they are? I looked at the Fade control and it was set in the middle. Should they produce more sound that a tiny bit? Should I take it into the dealer?
I also can't figure out how to use the speed compensating volume control. Mine doesn't do it and I have read the instructions and can't get the menu to pop up to allow me to set it? Any suggestions?
One last question: I have the naviation system and there are always X's in the roads when I am driving. Does anyone know what they mean? I can't find it in the book either.
Sorry for all the stupid questions. Have a great evening.

In the upper door mount there are two speakers (co-axial). The rear speakers put out the bass in most of the DSP modes. There's a really cool post in the Audio section that breaks down the different DSP modes as well as other settings for the HK unit.

There is no rear tweeter - no good for full range sound from the rear.
Your best attempt is to select the SPATIAL mode which puts some higher frequencies from the rear speakers, but a bit muffled in my opinion.
The speed volume setting has no effect on HK systems - it seems to be left over from the non-HK functions, and is not even accessible on some (newer?) HK equipped MINIs.
You can read this HK review if you want to learn more.
Can't help with the X in the road stuff - but don't drive over them in case they puncture the tires!
