Window Troubles

I own a 2004 chili red S. I have been having trouble with my driverside window. When it sits in the heat and sun all day, my window ceases to work properly.

First it does not drop to the proper position when opening so when I shut the door the window will not tuck back into the door frame. I end up having to drive home with the door not securely shut for fear of breaking the window when it hits the roof.

I asked my service guy about it and he said to beat on the inside of the door just below the door latch. This would make it work again. It doesn't and it seems kinda silly. Does anyone else have this problem and do you have a solution other than beating on the door.

Thanks.

I had the same problem a few years back with my '04 MCS.

I don't recall all of the specifics, but I will tell you how I remember getting this issue resolved. I read somewhere on a MINI site (I believe it was Motoring File. EDIT: here is the link - http://www.motoringfile.com/2005/08/...w_motor_issue/) that the motors for operating the windows were essentially known by MINI to fail and get stuck up or down (I had problems with both). The entry said if you are under warranty and request it, MINI will replace the motors for you.

I did so at the Jacksonville, FL dealership, leaving my car there for a week. When I returned, I found that they had not replaced the motors as promised, and had merely added lubricant to the system. I had no choice but to take the car home that day since I live in Savannah, GA (2 hours north). The problem did disappear, but returned within two weeks.

Instead of returning to Jacksonville, I took the car to the dealer Charleston, SC. It was there that they promised to replace the motors and actually did. I have not had the issue since then.

I wish I could be more specific on the parts used, but I think your Service Advisor should know about the motor fix. Not to get self-righteous, but I know that I didn't pay $25k for a vehicle that I have to physically beat on the inside door to get the power window to operate.

Press for the motor swap, or ask to speak to someone else!

You need a new window motor.
Don't let your SA talk you out of it if you are under warrenty.
I had a motor fail, and it did just as you have described. It would not work and then start working agian. You will see others on the site who have had the same problem.
MINI of Nashville did not even ask any questions when I came in while the window was in one of its 'working now' periods. They just replaced it.

Thanks for the info. My dealership is the one in Memphis. I am going up there in January. My warranty runs out in March. I'm going to treat this as a parting gift from Roadshow BMW Mini because, yes, I did not pay that much for a car to beat on doors either.

Thanks again.

That is pretty lame that they gave you that advice when your car was under warranty. I have seen this method used on cars that were out of warranty though.
