Hi . . .I have an '03 Mini which I am driving from Los Angeles to Vancouver Canada. It will stay there for about 3-6 months per year as I own a home there. I called ASK MINI today about this . . and found out that there is NO WARRANTY IN CANADA FOR U.S. SPEC'ED CARS. Is this true? What am I supposed to do? Supposedly roadside assistance works fine. . but . . . where will be MC be assisted transport to?? Curious, since I know that Mercedes-Benz fully warranties US Benz's in Canada. . . .even the free maintenance program works there. Perhaps I was given the wrong info from ASK MINI??? All help is appreciated. Peter

This sounds strange..
My Euro-spec Mexican MINI can be serviced under warranty anywhere on the planet, including Canada.
I don't see why a U.S. spec car should be any different.
I know that doesn't help much, sorry...

Your warranty is only valid in the U.S and Puerto Rico. Yes you can get your MINI serviced anywhere in the planet but it doesn't mean you will get warranty coverage for your repairs. MINIs sold in Mexico have no warranty coverage in the US. Same with Canadian spec MINIs. Your best bet is to get your car serviced in Seattle, so you need to plan to cross the border for warranty repairs.

MINI USA is the distributor and they put the 4 year/50,000 mile warranty, road side assistance and scheduled service on the cars and pay for the warranty repairs, not the manufacturer. Years ago, BMW AG (Germany) would pick up the tab for warranty repairs for the first year or 12,000 miles, and then BMW of North America (the distributor) would pay for the warranty repairs to 4 years/50,000 miles. I suspect it may be the same for MINI, as the US cars have a longer warranty than most other markets.

Funny, I had the opposite problem there. Since Washington has only one Mini dealership down in Tacoma, I looked into buying one from Vancouver area which has two dealerships. I decided against doing it when I found out that Mini's from Canada would not be covered by warranty here in the USA.

And as I mentioned earlier, the only dealership here is down in Tacoma so that'd be quite a drive for you to get warranty work taken care of.
