I`d be more concerned about someone not being able to see me clearly and my intentions, i.e. braking, turn signal, etc. than a ticket. Why run the risk of getting plowed from behind because someone cant see you because you have now made it harder for them to see you? Everyone that has them always says I can see them fine. I`ve been behind cars with them and its extremely difficult during the daytime to tell on some of them. I`m sure the plus side is if you get hit from behind, and get ticketed, you're now putting the blame on yourself.

I can't figure out why anyone would tint a headlight, side marker, or tail light.... these are safety items. For a show car - sure. For a car driven on the street? C'mon. There are enough idiots out there that I want to make sure that I project as much light from my tail lights as possible!

It's about looks...and if you don't want to do that, it's fine, don't...but others do like to do it, and I think they know the consequence of doing so (if they don't then shame on them, they need to be informed).

I almost smacked the back end of a car that had tinted tail lights once. It was a bright sunny day, and this car just slowed way down for no apparent reason. There was this, almost nonexistent glow from the tail lights. Tinted lights.

Made me realized that not only are they unsafe, but look kind of stupid too.

Whether they look stupid is a matter of opinion. I have them on my MINI and I made sure they are easily visible in both daylight and darkness. I also have the 3rd light pulser for added safety. I also have illegal tint on my windows. I guess I am just a real mennace to society. Likewise, I am sure you are a perfect citizen.

I've noticed that those tinted tail lights work fine when you have LED lights. Regular filament lights are very affected by the tints...
They look cool, but it is true... Safety first.

Thanks

Mine are very visible and I even have the top parts of my 04 Mini tail lights light up. So I have 100% more light over stock. The tint only cuts the light down by 8%.

The car in front of you most likely had "Painted" tail lights and not a film. The tinted painted ones make it very hard to see, but many people do it because they don't know tint is better or their lights have too many angles for the tints to wrap around.

I've seen that cars as the Mazda MX-7, Chevy Impala, Chevy Trail Blazer come with black tinted Tail lights from factory. So what about those?... Do they get tickets too?

If someone has to explain the difference between factory and aftermarket to you then you're way behind the power curve.

Every state is different. However, SUV tinting laws are not the same as regular cars. You need to check the laws in your state.

If it comes from the factory, they have already done the research to get the part DOT approved. Which means that it meets the minimum guidelines for that part, more than likely that a certain candlepower is visible from a certain distance. Thats why most aftermarket parts say "FOR OFFROAD USE ONLY", because the companies havent spent the money for the testing (probably because they know it would fail).

Hey Paipuky, how do you know it only cuts down on your light by 8%?

The tint factor of the film describes the percentage of light blocked or not blocked, depending on how the particular film is advertised.

That was told by MARIOKART. I have no idea. I haven't installed the tints yet. That is why I'm researching.

Thanks

It may look so cool to some folks, but it does cut light output. On a rainy night when someone slams into you, you may then realize that the cool looks weren't worth the cost.

yah, kinda like tinting EXIT signs in buildings... might be cool to some
until fire breaks out and now you can't see it through the smoke.

Yea you might want to steer clear of the tinting.... I mean, after all we ARE in the US, and as we all know US drivers are very well below average! America sucks...and if you can't see the car in front of you slowing down without brake lights....I feel sorry for you, because I sure as hell can (or you are following to close!).
