R50/53 Brakes?!
Brakes?!
So I have a 2002 cooper with about 44000 miles on it and I have recently noticed that when i barely press the brake pedal the front driver's side brake makes kind of a whooshing sound which stops if i fully depress the pedal. It also doesn't happen at any speed lower than about 45mph. I was just wondering if anybody else might have had this happen and what it could be. Do i just need to have my brakes changed?
Thanks

You might be getting close to that time, but you should have brake sensors on the pads to let you know when to change them. But just in case pull a wheel and check the pads you can easily tell at that time.
I would hope that your MINI has at least 1 brake job by now. If not, you are more than likely due. Probably wouldn't hurt to do a fluid change as well.
Don't forget to have the rotors turned and/or inspected. When I swapped mine they were nice and warped.

More Brake Stories...
I changed front pads only at 30K miles, with 50% pad left. That's @ 70% hi-way miles;split the rest between spirited twisties on weekends and normal city driving.I mentioned this to a vendor at MITM,and they said most MINIs need pads AND rotors after 30K!!!(("Buy my Parts!")??)I haven't felt any indication of warped rotors!
My wifes '05 MCS Cabrio travels the same hi-ways,the same twisties, but goes up and down hills daily.I changed her( front only )pads at 28K miles with less than 30% left.Too many variables, too many vendors, lots of salespeople, lots of brands, lots of different drivers,etc...:impatient

Upgrade parts
Mine was ready for brakes about 32K miles. I went ahead an upgraded to SS lines, EBC RedStuff Pads, and slotted rotors from Helix. They work great! If you are going to spend the money, at least upgrade on better components so the brakes bite better...
