My Howling is Gone!

For the past year I've had the terrible loud howling, screaming noise at higher speeds.

I tried everything to get rid of it - messing with the AC and recirculation, windshield wipers, and I was about to do the blue painters tape thing everywhere, but now it's gone!

I had my windshield and molding replaced and that did it. Now it is as quiet as can be!!

I'm so glad, yay!

on an '06...

was it always howling? what started it to howl?

my droning 16 dunlop runflats are on their last legs and make plenty of noise to cover up all other MC noises..

our 06 doesn't seem to howl.

It started over a year ago - I had only had my MINI for five months and it was June, 2006 to be exact.

We were coming down off the mountain from Jerome, Arizona...thought I picked up a ghost cuz it sounded like a banshee!

You can hear the exact sound on this thread - listen to abuzavi's long version of the wail, howl, scream, whatever you want to call it! I'm just happy its finally gone!

That's what I've maintained all along. I had the howling from day one, and I knew it was the molding, because I could place my hand against the inside of the windshield during the howling, and as I put pressure on the windshield, the howling would change pitch, or stop.

I occassionally get a howling at 80-90+ mph. If I change the HVAC setting from fresh to recirculating or vice versa, it stops. For mine, it's a matter of air being forced through the vents at high speed.
