Received my MINI on June 2nd and drove it 800 miles home no problem. Got home and started to play with in the twsities and noticed the stumble when starting from a dead-stop.

Now I notice when I'm in 2nd or 3rd, acceleration is good until about 3500 and then it seems to flatten out. Not bog down totally, but the same feeling you get when you turn the AC on. I'm still in break-in so I'm not going past 4200 or so and can't really tell if it improves after 3500.

Any ideas?

I never experienced that even when I had the same mileage as you. In fact, 3,500 was when it started to feel like it was beginning to pull on it's way to the 4,500 break in redline.

Perhaps it will sort itself out by the time you hit 1200 miles

Good luck,

Regards,
Red

if you look at a the torque curve on a graph, there is a noticeable dip
in the 3000 to 4000 range. The power build a lot quicker once you get
past 4000 or so. Once you get past 1200 miles, the smiles should
build also!

Thanks for the responses - I'll hold my breath for the next two weeks and see if sorts itself out when I can punch it past 4000.

Don't have an S, but my MC just starts pulling at around 3000. The MC power band pull is from 3000 to 5000, and is most apparent in 1st and 2nd gear. I didn't notice it until I was past break-in and I started pushing my shifts to 5000 or more. After you hit 1250, you'll be able to hit it and find out. I'm sure you'll feel it!

PDX,

Check your ECU for latest upgrades from the dealer !!

I had Randy ( http://www.minicoopermotorsports.com ) install a 15 % reduction pulley recently during a Florida group pulley install. What a major difference in every day driveablility. It pulls well off the line from 1,500 RPMs and makes a major improvement in the pleasure of driving my MCS. Not to mention top end performance  !!

Check it out !!

Best Regards,
Ron

The pulley is on the list, as well as an intake and sways...

I just need to figure out a way to get it taken care of on the sly so the fiance doesn't find out. It's technically "our" car.

Maybe I can convince her with the MPG gain.
