>>Good luck Stovepipe, BabsWife, and Veak!! Wow, that's a lot of mini-MINI-motorers on the way.
>>

I"m in this crowd too. My little mini is due the first week of December and I've already been out checking out the car seats. Baby's-R-Us only has like 50 different ones! Tough choice when you have no idea what your're doing.

^ It's good to know that 2minis keeps up with these things too. Thinking of needing a child seat?

Lolo,We got our seat and mat at Buy,Buy,baby.I'm sure most of the other stores that carry car seats will also have the mat.One other thing I forgot to mention.Once your child gets older and begins to realize they have feet, the Mini's seat back soon becomes a kick boxing dummy. Our two year old rests his feet on the seat back and sometimes kicks it.It drives me nutty. So, to combat the little kicker,I purchased this travel seat back hanging thingy from Bed,Bath,Beond. It does two things. It keeps the seat back clean and free of scratches. It also has a bunch of pockets and little storage spaces that he can stick all his travel stuff in .(yes he has travel stuff )
Believe me,you never have enough room for their travel stuff. The mat we have is somewhat fitted to the seat. It's nice and thick and is a must if you want to keep the seats from getting little pockets formed into them from the safety seat. That's my story.Jaydawg.

Good suggestions here. Once your child gets older and moves into a booster seat, I highly recommend the Graco Turbo Booster. It is lightweight, comfortable, has cup holders for your child (no drinks allowed in the MINI, but they like to stick "stuff" in the cup holders), it protects the head well, etc.

Don't be fooled by the light weight. It's a very good booster. Unlike car seats where the seat must take a lot of force, with a booster, the seat is simply holding the seat belt at the right height, lifting the passenger, and protecting the head. The Graco Turbo Booster does all of these functions very well. The color scheme fits well with the MINI, too. They have one that matches the space cloth really well and another that sort of matches Lapis Blue.

You'll find that once the kids move into boosters, you have a lot more room in the MINI, as their legs are able to drape over the seat and you don't have feet or car seats sticking out toward the front seats.

One thing I did, also, was to buy a high quality black cotton towel and place in the rear seat to protect it from dirty feet, etc. Kids will put their feet all over the back of your car.

See ya,
JS

>>First baby due in August. I would love to take Mom and newborn home from hospital in the MINI. Which child car seats would you Moms and Dads recommend? Actual brand names and info would be much appreciated.

Hello from Guadalajara, Mexico
I bought my Mini 1 month ago, have two kids ages 4yrs and 18 months respectively.

I went with the Mini original car seats. Had the dealer bring them all the way from Germany so they could fit the back seat of my car. It took the shipment 3 weeks to arrive, finally got them last week and they look great, must be secure as BMW sells them in all Europe and Mexico... the IsoFix (tether) fits perfect on the holes provided for it and the size is just right for your mini. Ask your dealer for the child car seat option... don't know if they have it in the USA but you can give it a try

Congrats for your new baby. A family looks very cool riding a Mini...

Regards. Esteban

roroes,
Do you have pictures? I would love to see how they look. Do your kids feel comfortable in it, or look comfortable as the case may be. Please share.

Lolo

Hola Lolo, good afternoon

You can actually see the pictures on the mini mexico web site http://www.mini.com.mx

Once in the Page go to "Planeta Mini" then to "accesorios Mini" then to "seguridad"... scroll to take a look at the car seats. They show the yellow / grey combination, although i believe there is an orange / grey combination and a blue/grey combination.

Let me know if you could get through, if you couldn't get me your email address and i will copy paste the pictures and send them over to you,

Hope to hear back from you soon... Saludos. Esteban

We have two children, both of which fit in the MINI just fine. Our 5 month old uses the carrier portion of the evenflo travel system and our 2yr. -2month old uses a booster style seat with a back. We do have to move the seats forward but it's not so bad that we don't all fit. I am 6' 3" and I fit just fine with either seat behind me.( driving or riding passenger. More room is always good, but in a pinch it works just fine. Our other car is a Mitsubishi Diamante, which is the preferred family car.
