I was stationed in Italy and though they have speed limits, they don't enforce or obey any traffic signs. 175mph is really scary when a 3 wheeled vegetable car may pull infront of you any second. Great fun.

The result is what we call "cowl shake" - the front end of the car vibrates on rough pavement... on a cabrio, the USS virtually eliminates this - it's like a different car from only 7lbs of aluminum... unbelievable really, but true.

But you really only notice this in performance driving - twisty roads. That's where the difference is tremendous.
And there I am, smiling from ear to ear when we go up and down 'the tail of the lizard' (a small street behind our house) in a speed where my SAAB would have given up long before. Without a USS.

Guess if I get one I will need a corrective surgery then

abuzavi,
Do these mods need to be inspected by the TUV in Germany or does US military personnel still get an exception ? But I think I saw a German license plate on your MINI ?!

No, we're not subjected to the dreaded TUV inspectors, but it's not much easier these days. I suspect that the USS, for example, will have to be removed for the next inspection, but that will be easy. The pulley? One would have to know to look, and even then, mine is very stealthy (no bling-bling on it, nothing that screams "This is not stock!). I do need to look into the paperwork one would need to get something like the USS past the TUV -- if it exists, I sure could use it with our own inspectors.

Good for you !
Just don't forget to get it out if you ever happen to get in an accident.
I don't know how it is nowadays but 10 years back a friend had some hassle with the insurance of the guy that rearended him because his steering wheel wasn't sanctioned by the TUV. Did his steering wheel have anything to do that he got rear ended ? Nope, but the insurance company used it as an excuse anyway. However, I don't know how it ever worked out though.

Herr Volker,

Look familiar?

The kids and I went out there today, and loved it. Fantastic drive through the countryside to get there, a nice drive up through the hills and wald to get to the castle itself, and a nice visit. We had lunch out on the rock outcrop -- great view.

Thanks for the recommendation on going there -- one more reason to love NAM!
