R50/53 What made you get into Minis?
I had an '87 Toyota FX16GTS as a daily driver for quite a while. It was easy to drive in traffic but if you you wound it out on the twistys it there was a good grin fractor. I wanted a replacement but no one seemed to have anything like it, inexpensive and quick. The MINI has a 2" longer wheelbase, 1" wider track. The standard MINI's performance was very close as well. I ended up with an S for the extra fun factor. It's like buying a new pair of shoes, same style but with more soul

My 1st car was classic Mini, and I had 4 others over the years. When I came to the States, I kinda looked into getting one, maybe one of the modern Rover models that I saw in England in 98, but it never wotrked out. Then when I heard that BMW was going to redesign and build totally modern "bricks" I knew I had to at least check it out.
I was a real easy sell after I found out how well they handled. That's always been my highest priority on a car. I want it to go exactly where I point it.
Then I broke the engine in my 91 Eagle Talon turbo last year, and everything fell into place. I love Alice.

One look at a MINI and I was blown away. Simply love at first sight. Issues of cost and compatability were the next things to deal with. Then performance and value. The car sells itself in these areas, but whether to wait a year and pop for the S, or get the regular Cooper, whose looks I prefer, was the only other major decision. Then it was on to color and options. Settled on a PS/B MC. Waited 4 months, took delivery 2/03. Still get a surge of affection and pride every time I look at it. I'd have two if I could- an IB/W one. If I could have 3, I'd get... never mind
For the past few years, I've been seeing a gym member of mine who I just met for the first time today...drive his 72' mini. The first time I saw it I thought, "how cute."
Then when I started car shopping about 3 months ago, I listed the MCS at number 5 on my list. As the other cars on my list dropped off due to cost and practicality...the MINI moved up the list and stayed there. I am very happy with my choice and can't wait to have Jr. home.
