Ask a fighter pilot if they would like to fly a stealth fighter without the computer.

It is a fact that many complicated planes can not be flown without the computer.

Why is that such an attack on a drivers ego/machismo?

I certainly think that turning the DSC off can be great fun in a controlled environment, but in the everyday world of driving with unknown and unknowable events on our streets I think it would make the MINI slightly less safe for most drivers. Not all drivers.

I couldn't agree with the last couple of posts more: for "pure" street/city driving (which I do a TON of in Chicago), turning left from a stop (for example, when the light turns red and you're the only thing left in the intersection--perfectly legal in Illinois!) can be scary if the DSC is on, but when you get out onto Lake Shore Drive or the interstate (i.e. speeds over, say 45 mph) I think the DSC is a GREAT safety feature. Evasive maneuvering at speed is just the sort of thing I think that it was made for--and just the sort of time that you have real potential for rolling.

I've had two MINIs now (MC and MCS), and have gotten DSC on both, and I say that unequivocally, you should get it on your new MINI. That being said, depending on the type of driving that you're doing, and the STYLE in which you drive, you may find your DSC ON:DSC OFF ratio to be high or low...
