R50/53 How can I tell?
I wanted to thank everyone for their input. I have decided to stay with the stock Halogens and am going to add a pair of fog lights. I really like the look of the fog lights that go on the grill and will use those for the increase visibilty. Thanks again for all the suggestions!
I have the Sylvania Silverstars in my GP ... they *are* brighter than stock, while still being Halogen color - but it seems that they achieve "brighter" by throwing light in a less focussed way! I see more light to the sides, and in more than one MINI caravan I've had the MINI in front comment on glare in their rear view mirror.
But when you're not closely following a MINI, they seem fine. I tend to watch for lighting up the cabin of the car in front, and keep back from doing that ... no-one has flashed me for being too bright in the other direction, so they're not bad like the super-dazzling pseudo-xenon bulbs

BTW, you can also now buy Xenon driving lights. Hella makes several kinds. Now THEY will light up the night

The fog lamps are recessed into the lower air dam and are mounted low to reduce reflection off the fog, but don't add anything in the way of long distance illumination.
It's not about "bling" for me; I want to see the DEER before I HIT it and Xenons do a great job of lighting the night up like day.
They do look great however and I think the Xenon assembly looks like a flying saucer. Pretty cool.
