Considering first Mini purchase.

Hey everyone,

I've been looking into getting a used car and I'm considering a Mini. I love quick little manuals that get good mileage so the Mini is right up my alley. I came across a decent priced one in Pittsburgh. It's a 2007 Mini Hardtop with 39,000 miles on it for $12,000.

I actually test drove it and everything handled fine. The car seemed to be in good shape though I didn't look at the engine and wouldn't know much about it if I did. My previous cars have been Japanese and they didn't need much TLC.

I only hesitate because the car has no warranty with it at all. I seem to read many reports of problems with Mini's online and this one is already 5 years old. Am I asking for trouble? Should I talk with the dealer about adding some kind of warranty?

Here is a link to the car. Any advice appreciated.

Looks like the car you were looking at already sold... did you get it?

If not, you may want to look into the MINI Next program if you are worried about buying used w/o warranty. http://www.miniofpittsburgh.com/CPOStory

I'd say to avoid the early years for each gen, 2000/2001 and 2007. If you're looking at a non-s hardtop, they seem to be more generally reliable.
