MINI powered go cart
INSANE! I would love to drive it...provided it had side nerf bars and a roll cage

a friend of mine just sent me this vid like 3 days ago, since we want to build a go kart over the summer
dont know how that will work out, but this vid def makes me either want to make one real bad
(other option is splitting in and buying an old continental thats selling for a few hundred locally)

What year is the Continental? My father in law had a 68 several years back-what a beast! 400hp/500ft/lb torque (opt.400cu.in. 4 barrel carb engine) suicide doors, white with a silver leather interior. You could actually watch the as gauge drop! I've always been a Virgel Exner fan and the Continentals where some of his best work (IMHO). I always felt like I was on the way to wack a guy when I drove that land yacht-but what a ride it had!

well this is no beauty like a 68; its a beastly 79. a little beat, but really not that bad for a few hundred bucks, and it still apparently runs; just roughly. An ugly beast in its own way; 400 cubes also, but no 400 horsepower. with emisiion standards in place the car was lucky to be pushing about 160 horses, and its about 2 and a half tons, though shares gas mileage with the 68 you speak of.
Not really looking to get it as a huge conti fan (though my friend im splitting with is more interested in the fact its an old conti and is literally just the def of a pimp mobile), but more of a car to learn a thing or two about restoring and mechanics on (as my MINI def needs no restoring, and [knock on wood] has been so reliable that besides changing the oil, and adding aftermarket parts [something i can't afford to do much of] hasnt really called for me to leanr many mechanical skills)
Biggest problem is the car is a beast in size too, and we have no clue where we'd store it, and we're not planning on insuring the thing (not gonna pull anything illegal though, the most we plan on driving the car is a block around the neighborhood)s o once we got it working decently again it couldnt be used as a regular driver which is why its more likely we're gonna build a go kart in the end, but still theres soemthign super cool about this conti.
sorry for the long post
but ill keep updates in a seperate thread once things really start rolling on whether we go for the kart, or conti, and how it works out.

I think the kart is powered by an old GSX-R engine, not an A-Series 1100. I can see the cooling fins on the cylinder, as they were air and oil cooled. The heat exchanger is probably for the oil. Revs sound pretty high for an A-Series too.
Either way, it looks like loads of fun.
