ohh why Subaru why!
As much as I like this version and I wish they kept the current version (am I the only one that was partial to the Alfa-esque nose?), I doubt this will be the new WRX. They're making too much hoopla for a small facelift so it will probably be a large departure from the current version. Plus, I think it's been said before that Subaru needed to make a transition to a hatchback structure to stay competitive in WRC. I think with a little bit of tweaking with the grill, different rear lights that aren't Altezza and a WRC-esque spoiler in the back would actually look pretty good. Also, one of my hopes is they make a 2-door version of this.
The new body is horrible. It takes one of my three competitors off the list for my new car. The list to replace the 04 STi was
08 STI
08 MINI JCW
08 GT-R
Now the top one is gone leaving just two options. Are we going to be a 3 Mini/ MINI family or get the Nissan for more umph.

Wonder how Seb or Marcus would do in one of them.
Looks much better with subarus pictures

the grill is still horrible
But the interior looks really good, or at least better than mine

Finally red gauges in the wrx
I actually think the hatch looks decent. I don't really consider the grille to be a deal-breaker since there will be ample options available in the aftermarket. I appreciate the hatch flexibility too, though I wish the car was more distinctive from some of the other makes that have been mentioned in this thread. If you guys haven't seen the thread on NASIOC.org, this design is apparently the best thing to happen to Mitsubishi in a long time.
this is just idle thinking at lunch today with my ma... but here's something from a design student
while the new 08 WRX does look like Subaru completely fumbled it, considering that the EVO/Lancer, the main competition to the Impreza, and the STI, looks as good as this:

but seems like everyone's missing a key point in all this, the main purpose of the older generation of Imprezas, is that they are designed for function, not for form. An example would be like an Alfa Romeo, Alfas are always about form, it doesn't matter if it broke down 3 days a week, nor the slow-ness of its engine... its all about the looks... same as the Subarus, they are about outright performance, not just looks. All STIs look like another runabout on the street... so in that respect, Subaru is doing exactly what they've been doing, keeping form at the back, while doing everything thye can in terms of function...
i have always been a fan of the EVO camp, so its not a surprise that I defenitely don't like the new Impreza... but every legendary cars has had it's pitfalls, another Japanese giant car the Nissan Skyline fumbled in the R31, and then again in the R33, but everyone still brought it, would this be a fall for the Subaru before they pick things up again?
ok, now that i've opened a can of worms... ill never return here again

i would just give it like 2months and im sure they'll have their first refresh ready.
