Looking for a first Car. What about the 323i?

I'm looking for a first car and thought I'd get some input. My first choice was a MINI, but I will be toting around 3 younger brothers every day so I need 4 doors.

I went to carmax to day and saw a 2000 BMW 323i 5 speed. I really liked it. Before, I was leaning toward the G35, but I hate the 4 door and can't have the coupe.

So, I'm liking the 323i. I have "connections" () and could get a 2000 for ~$10k.

Any recommendations?

Heres a pic of the one I saw at carmax:

This is a great car. This is one of the few models in the past that the model number does not match the car. It is a 2.5 straight six not a 2.3 or a 4 cylinder as the model would suggest. You will get decent gas mileage and nice pick up with really great handling. I think it was around 180hp. There were issues that year with radiators. Make sure it has been replaced, if not do it right away. From the image, you can see the three spoke stereing wheel. This means it had the "sport package" looks like it has the luxury package as well. I have owned two of these.

i liked those 323i sedans. much better than the current 325i imho.

btw, make sure that paint job is not a repair job.. the silver color (could
be just lighting) does not look like a par paint match. i would recommend
you take a close look before you buy.

My dad has someone that buys cars at auctions at wholesale prices for him. You can find someone like that in the paper, but you'll have to pay their fee.

Thank you very much for that information. I've forwarded it onto my Guardians!

Thank you VERY much for that information. I will be sure to check both of those things before I buy.
