I'm a little bit hooked on NASCAR, but much less so since they implemented the incredibly cheesy Race to the Chase "playoff" system. (It's kind of the automotive equivalent of playing the Super Bowl with all 32 NFL teams on the field at the same time, but only two of them are eligible to win the game).
I don't mind watching cars go in a circle (I also sometimes enjoy open wheel racing on oval tracks), and I enjoy the fact that the NASCAR drivers tend to have a lot of personality which adds a certain soap opera element to the whole spectacle. (I.e. seeing rednecks throw beer cans at Jeff Gordon every time he wins... ). But the points system, which barely rewards winning and instead makes it a priority to "not come in last", is completely lame, as is NASCAR's overriding priority to make sure that they have an "exciting" finish to the season by resetting the standings 10 weeks from the finish. (Sorry, but if somebody wins 15 races in the first half of the year and runs away with the title that's a lot more exciting than some articificially arranged "close finish" at Homestead).
It's kind of comical that NASCAR admitted that they needed to emphasize winning more and then... gave an extra 5 points this year to the race winner . (With their point system previously awarding 180 points for a win, that's about an extra 2.7% emphasis on winning. Gee, thanks!)
Anyway, not to detract from your enthusiasm for the sport. I imagine I will be watching the Daytona 500 as usual, and it will look like this:

Yep, I'm a fan. But I can't watch every race. But the Daytona 500 is on my must watch list as well as Talledega, Bristol, Lowes and Darlington. Visited the Daytona track last year whilst seeing my folks. Man that thing is amazing! Don't have a favorite driver. My friend works at the Goodyear facility that produces the NASCAR tires. Not much rubber on the tread. Anyways, I'd rather watch the Daytona 500 than the Super B*wl. (Can't say the name without violating somebodies trademark thing.)

That is an understatement if you are hoping that Toyota are going to make a (positive) impact.
So, how is Juan Pablo going to do ?
I have a feeling that he will either crash out real early, or be a contender in the last few laps - I'd like to see him win it, but Stewart has a point to prove......
