Somebody say wing?

Just in case you want to buy one:

The Dodge pickups, with the Viper V10, and their other hi-po models have wings. Now that's stupid. *IMHO*

The 04 STi wing generated about 30kg of downforce at speed. In 06, STi added the roof vane spoiler to increase the performance of the spoiler but I'm not sure what the new figure is. The revised front end allowed the hood scoop to get smaller so its now the same as the WRX with the exception of the hole for the intercooler sprayer. The car also now features some additional underbody aero that straightens the air out under the car resulting in more downforce.

The car is obviously not built for looks but it gets the job done. If anyone wants to buy one, PM me first

The new STI Limited has a small lip spoiler on the rear and the roof vane spoiler is deleted. That lip spoiler is functional as well!

Petter Solberg is said to have been asked about driving his WRC car without the spoiler and he said it felt the same.

as flexible as the STI spoiler is, I don't think it's really doing much honestly. The Prodrive UK300 spoiler and the V7 spoiler look nicer than the US spoiler in any case.

Both Subaru and Mitsubishi have released technical papers in regards to the vortex generators/vanes and wings. Do a little Google-ing, read and be informed.

A truly useless wing can be found currently residing on the ***-end of the MCS.

While we are roundly chastised for asking for further elaboration of the butt-dyno gods here on NAM, the fully functional wing on the STi is being questioned even though its affects have been fully documented and proven.

Both the STi and Evo have as much soul, heritage and tradition as the Mini. Just because the FandF crowd has corrupted their stateside image does not detract from the spirit of either of these cars. Drive one at the track and then come back here and let us know how little soul they really have.

I can understand the styling not being universally adored but you cannot deny their functionality.

A good friend just picked up an 07 black STi.......he's been complaining about low end hesitation issues that he did not have in his 05. Dealer said that this is due to the new ECU programming and they are working on a fix......

Does this sound right to you?

well then, with all that down force we need to watch out so they don't
pop a wheelie on the expressway, huh?

Not really - in my car it's offset by the fact that I'm grossly overweight......this keeps the front of the car planted nicely.

Actually it is to keep the car level as it lands from jumps on gravel roads.

There are two questions here:
  1. Is it a wing or a spoiler? They are two totally different things. A spoiler does just what it sound like ... it "spoils" the airflow so the rear end wont lift. A wing actually generate downforce. For example, the Boxster has a spoiler, it does not generate downforce. The Exige has a wing, it does generate about 90 pounds
  2. At what speed? Porsche wings (in the CS and Carreras) pop up at 75 mph because they do nothing below that. That just makes it more pleasing to the eye in that huge wing isn't there all the time.
The superbird wing DID produce downforce as at that time, all "stock cars" HAD to have 500 cars made from stock parts.

It's a sping. I've also heard it called a woiler. Don't mention Porsches on this thread - this is about soul - not some tarted up Volkswagen with the engine in the wrong location.......

I have absolutely no idea whatsoever. I could read the papers I so crassly referred everyone to, but I'm just too damn lazy......

.........and for the last time stop using the P-word. I've been watching your posts like a hawk my friend, and have noticed an alarming trend. I liked you much better when you were openly a Mini hater, gloomy gus and a nay sayer.

Your last few posts have all been about that rotten Cayman S you threw $70K away on. Thread: What's Your Dream Car? You paste a picture of your big butted Cayman S.......Thread: What's are the Most Beautiful Cars on the Road? You paste another cursed picture of the Rommel-Mobile. I'm warning you - stop now.

PS - They don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Germany.

Sadly, not everyone has Chows sense of sarcasm or humor.

Last time I took a playful run at him I got about 5 angry e-mails..............he's apparently well-liked around here despite the fact that he's a Mini hater, owns two backbiting, purple-tongued curs and has a borderline criminal checkerboard fetish.

Not surprising....the Legacy GT has had an ongoing real/not real problem with the same issue - the cars share the same motor and e-throttle (programming is sharper on the STI), but the ancilliaries differ (TMIC, intake manifold and turbo) - it's led to some creative photochops:

notsomuch. staying in the power over the jump does, not the wing.

STI is a great car with a HUGE enthusiast following, much like the Mini.

The 07's have terrible ECU settings...luckily there is tons of tuner support for the car and I heard that Subaru is addressing this too.

Dude, I dont think the Japanese do either Of course, I could be wrong. Maybe they got some Pilgrims or Puritans over there too

Rommel! Woot ... I guess of all the German generals, he probably was the only one who knew what he was doing but I think he just stole some Audis or Dusenburgs. Of course, one car mag/blog just released their top ten all-time move/TV cars and guess which one didn't make the list Oh yeah, Italian job mentioned but didn't make top 10. General Lee was #1, good Ole American Muscle!

Dude, how many times I got to tell ya, checkers are in. Stripes are OUT. Way out. There is nothing worse than imitating Shelby or Viper stripes .... sheese, you want a Shelby or Viper, then buy one ... no need to imitate ... oh WAIT ... maybe those Shelbys or Vipers are ... OMG .... "Counterfeit MINIs!"

BTW "Big Butts"? Woot ... hot.

Not to mention it would be awfully boring around here if he wasn't stirring the pot, especially bragging about his RAV4 beating the MCS off the line

I NEVER ... ever bragged about anything Ever. I have made observations about RAV4s and MINIs ... objectively with numbers to back them up.

However, since you INSIST on bringing that up, I quote you the following from RAVworld

Done with gtimer widget on a 10K runway ... legal

First column is observed time
Second column is Car & Driver recorded time

0-90 13.28 13.5
0-80 10.5 10.6
0-70 7.9 7.9
0-60 6 6.3

Take THAT you dastardly MCSs!!!

I bet if that guy had a BIG wing ... he could have had a 5 second SUV! Although there is talk now of chipping it
