Dodge Hornet?? Boooo...

Hmmm, I wonder what car they're ripping off HERE?

Tell me that doesn't look like the unholy love child of a MINI and a Scion xB.

OK, OK... I DO like the suicide door on the driver's side. Wish my MINI had one. Other than that, why would I want a DODGE when a Mini's the "real deal"?

Boo!

i hate it too. but, the fact that it has the same motor as a MINI is very intriguing to me. i for one am hoping they build it with the Tritec motor and all. that way the motor in my MCS is no longer an obsolete lump. meaning tuners will still be able to develop parts for my car and with more applications out there the prices may go down as well. no more $1k headers! (where's my "praying" smiley?)

Don't worry... by the time they make a production-ready version, it will be even uglier...

Actually, the styling isn't too bad to me. Of course, I like the engine and the wheels are pushed out well into the corners. Unfortunately, Dodge will completely bodge the suspension, and it will wind up driving like a Ford Explorer.

I agree with the initial reaction. Mini + xB =

Looks like a tank next to a Mini.

To me that Dodge looks nothing like the MINI. It's just the stripes and hood scoop that are throwing you off.

It's a MINI 4x4! Seriously that thing looks like it has some ground clearance!

I'm wondering if it's not "mini" at all, but rather a cross-over type vehicle...

...but if the engine spec is right then it can't be too big I suppose...hmmm :impatient

I think the hornet would fit in nicely with your little family... but I think the new 07 MINI would fit better

And the position of the wheels in relation to the body, and the little lip on the trailing edge of the roof, and the rounded yet blunt nose......

An obvious attempt to copy that failed miserably.

I don't think we have to worry about anyone stopping us to say, "wow, your Dodge Hornet is really nice".

Nope, no confusing that thing for one of our beloved MINIs.

Tell that to those who still confuse Mini's with PT Cruisers!

Let me rephrase my comment:

Only an idiot could confuse that thing with one of our MINIs.

re: interior photos, why is it that American car manufacturers can't design a decent looking interior? so many American cars can look great on the outside and then the interior... not so much.

I notice the word "borrowed" is used a lot in that article about the Hornet. Obviously, not a single original thought went into the design.

When Bergey was in the shop earlier this week to replace the rear bumper cover, the other driver's insurance company got me a rental... you guessed it... a PT Cruiser. Not only was that thing Ugg Buttly on the outside, but the interior was cold, plain and uninviting.

Wow, was I happy to be back in my MC !

I dont understand bashing of Domestic cars...

Look at the interors of Japanese cars...talk about generic and uninviting

Every interior in a GM product thats been released in the last 2 years is up to par with the competition.

Chrysler makes some cool interiors as well. My parents have a Chrysler Pacifica as the family "utility vehicle" and I think the interior is great looking/feeling.

The latest Fords are nice too...Mustang, Fusion, Freestyle...all have nice looking interiors.

No, they're not up to European standards, but they're at least on par with the Japanese imo.

Like I've said many times...Domestic cars have improved drastically in the last few years, especially in the interiors...seems like no one is paying attention though. This is why they're still losing money.

I rented a PT last summer for two weeks. For a cheap little econobox, I thought it was great. I thought the interior was cool. Yeah it was cheap, but I liked that it was unique and retro looking and I found it much less cold than the interior of your average Corolla or Focus. It also drove fine for a car in that price range, and its supposedly super reliable.

It looks nothing like a MINI but it's not like it's drastically inferior to a base MC.
