Other NAM VW nuts? Other Euro?
mini-mizer, those are AMAZING.
914's definitely count, as do Audis (heck, my 2000 Passat 1.8t 5-sp wagon was a stretched Audi A4, on the Audi/VW B5 platform).
Funny, but reflects some of my VW experiences as well:

If it wasn't for something self-destructing on a weekly basis, I wouldn't be here

I have been drag racing, autocrossing, Circle track racing VW bugs for 32 years. I have written for VW magazines. I just sold a 68 but still have a street car that was a hot VW feature car and a drag car that I won the PRA world finals with. All of my VW buddies want a Mini. I am selling all my bugs to make more room for Mini's. Sorry to say after all these years I have jumped ship. Just the thought of airconditioning, heat, electric windows, leather seats and about 10,000 other creature comforts puts a big smile on my face. Air cooled VW are fun toys. But I really love my Mini.
Creature comforts, looks, realiable daily driver, very fun, and A/C!!!!! thats the whole reason i bought my MINI.
MINI + VW BUG drag car, could life get any better!? ....ok maybe it could, but that would still be schweeeeet!
Side Note: what engine setup were you running in your bug? I wanted to make my Notchback a drag car, but i didnt, because the car was too nice to chop up. One of the major reasons i sold it.
here is an older pic that shows how VAG crazy my family is:
I personally have not had a VW before, and the husband had a horrible time with a bad quality Jetta and terrible service, but I thinkg that I've had it with BMWs at this point and am hoping VW/Audi has improved. That Scirocco concept has potential...
i had an 86 8v gti from 95-96 till someone hit me.
then i got an 88 16v from 96-98.

in 98 i got a 91 2.0l 16v that i still have.

ive put a lot of work into it >.>

2001 i picked up 98 1.8t passat as a daily driver.

the mini is my first time not owning a vw

Hmmm,
Currently only four cars in the stable, all Euro. I have actually owned one piece of Detroit Iron, and two products from the Land of the Rising Sun, but Euro is really how I go. What are they?
2 MGs, 1 Audi, 1 MINI

Here's my 2000 GLX 1.8T New Beetle, well now my daughters. I LOVED driving this car! The Turbo made it very quick out the gate and great for passing. Great at hugging curves too. When shopping for me a new car this past summer I test drove an '06 TDI and was most dissappointed, I was spoiled with the Turbo. And I had my heart set on a Mini anyway.
This Bug is fully loaded and still driving like a new one.
VW's are

I love VW (87 golf/2000 Jetta GLS/VR6) but had to say goodbye to my 2002 1.8t Jetta GLS. It was a fun car but I had WAY too many problems.
The absurdity of following the tow truck to the dealer to sign paperwork in my 83 Jeep and thinking, "I'm making payments on that." got a little too much for me. I began to joke with friends that my car liked taking a ride on the back of a tow truck every once in a while.
Prior to VW acknowledging there was a problem with their regulators, I remember my windows falling into the door and not rising again... This was great during finals when I shrugged my shoulders and left the car wide open hoping someone would take it. Also was fun showing the car to a friend and having the window fall as I showed them the inside.
I had strange small springs appear out of nowhere under my seats (both front seats).
I was on a first name basis with my service advisor.
My cd changer died and had to be sent to HQ (their explanation, not mine) to have my cd's removed and returned to me 4 months later via fedex.
Coil packs died several times before a recall was put into effect.
A friend of mine got his 1.8T about 3 days before me and his car would turn off at random. Dealer saw no codes and could not replicate problem. He moved to Subaru though he is considering a GTI now.
Memories.... Sigh... Despite my whining, I am a big VW fan and briefly considered them prior to making my move on my MCS this past Feb. When my car WAS running, it was great and I'm sure I just got a bad apple or something. Still though, it will take me some years to get rid of the bad taste that got left in my mouth.

Hmmm... I saw 5x100s on that red GTI
. Do you have the 2 extra cylinders that sometimes goes with that?
My SSB 2.0 GTI was that same red, with BBSs then Borbet E's. Takes me back... nice 16v wheel too, those are hard to find now, and spendy!
I do like that the Mini drives like a *perfect* (read "never available") GTI, but with reliability and comfort the GTI could only hope for!

I've always liked VWs too, just picked one up last summer as a beater / car to take to Mexico. It's a Mk. 1 Cabriolet with the following:
2.0L stroker with techtonics head/cam/pistons/full exhaust, neuspeed throttle body, bilstein shocks and eibach springs, Quaiffe LSD, shortened gearbox, Neuspeed upper STB, homemade lower tie-bar and front engine-mount reinforcment. Momo steering wheel, Rota wheels / Yokohama tires.

It's for sale if anyone's interested for $1K obo. Looking to get into an A2 and do a VR6 conversion.

The MCS in my mind has a lot of the very good qualities of the 1991-92 GTi 16v.
My very first car:

and my last VW before falling into the Audi S4 fray.
