Driving gloves?

Starting to get a little cold here in the mornings...

Im thinking about getting some nice driving gloves this winter. no
racing gloves and none of that half finger gloves (too tacky for me).

Any recommendations? I don't want to spend too much..maybe $50
or less is ideal. I saw one at Wilson's Leather site that i might try...
wat do you think?

thanks, chows. i think i saw that over at one of the miata forums.

the one thing that was kind of bothering me about that Wilsons one is
the button strap instead of the velcro like the one you show.

hummmmmmmmmm....

those gloves look pretty nice, chows, BUT...

i don't think it's proper for MINI driving gloves to have velcro closures.

Edit: what i really meant was, ditto, Kenchan.

Re-edit: No, Kenchan, NO!

Used to have a pair where you traced your hand and measured wrist and
palm circumference and mailed in the template, then got a custom fit pair
a few weeks later.
Can't seem to find this service anymore, so I have some off the rack ones
I got at Boscov's.

I use Mechanix gloves (velco, sorry) as driving gloves, and love them.

I wouldnt get buttons. Leather stretches or whatever. Velcro, although tacky, would seem to give a better fit.

I've got a pair of black leather driving gloves that I bought at a local Wilson's store about ten years ago for $30 IIRC. They do have a velcro closure, they fit well, but I'm sure like with most things, you get what you pay for, one of these days I'll try a pair of the $50-100 gloves to see what I've been missing.

you need some of those aloe filled gloves from Griot's Garage

and the snap vs. velcro argument is silly. Who flippin cares.....you are just keeping your mitts warm

When the Classic Mini was first introduced in England its heater was a £5 ($15-20 in those days) option. I wasn't aware you could buy the new Mini without one!

Seriously, driving gloves don't offer warmth. They're designed for grip on skinny plastic or polished wood steering wheels, a need that has more or less gone the way of the buggy whip.

I see you're in Chicago, where the need for warmth can get pretty serious. Maybe you just need some regular lined leather gloves?

To cope with the cold I've got some double thick fleece glove that have a leather "grip pads" that I wear for about the first 3 min. I gernerally give up one vent to the shift ****, one to the 9 o'clock on the steering wheel and one at the three o'clock and leave the other one shut. Kick onthe heated seat and the MINI can get and stay warm pretty quick. However I suspect the super dry skin is a result of all the heaters and lack of humidity.

He drives an econo Civic in the winter so he may very well be without a heater

Gloves also come in handy if your hands tend to sweat a lot.

Our local "Farm and Fleet" sells thin, tight, deerskin work gloves that work very well and only cost about $17.00. They are especially nice for dry hands because the insides have a slightly oily feel that I like. The store is not known outside Wisconsin but there may be similar ones around.

My driving gloves are a set of string back, half finger "handschoenen" from Antwerpen, Belgium. Got them when I lived there. What is amazing is that the store, Huis A. Boon has made driving gloves for many years, and includes among its clientele Jacky Ickx. If you're ever in Antwerp, drop by Huis A. Boon and get yourself a pair.
