Um, my MINI is not a box.

It's more like a pod.

When I look at my MINI every day after work, the last thing I would think is... I love my "boxy" car. Even more so, I shudder to think that its being placed in the same catagory as the xB and HHR.

i like sports coupes/sedans and these boxy little cars.

there are so many smaller box sport hatches in Japan... wish
i could get my hands on those. MINI's are actually pretty
big down there.

It's hip to be square. Guess that makes me a swingin old hipster.

To me yes it's a bit square with the edges rounded off nicely. A very practical shape. In fact I like the whole trend towards practical cars.

The Scion xB is definitely boxy, but the MINI is too rakish to be considered boxy, IMO. Just look at the curves on the bonnets!

I'm relieved that this thread is about cars.....

"special edition Mini Cooper" Oh, you mean a GP?

"BMW Mini" :impatient I don't mind the association with BMW but for crying out loud get the name right! You're the highest circulated newspaper in the US!

I think they just stuck the MINI in there because it was another small, popular car. But I don't know what they were smoking. IMO, MINI Coopers are FAR from boxy, but then again I grew up with Volvos. My 1989 Volvo 740 Turbo Brick, now that was boxy!

is boxy that offensive?

ive always referred to my 3dr hatches as sport boxes or sport hatches...
you look at a sports coupe... then you look at your MINI. it's a box shaped
hatch.

I don't think its offensive at all, I just have never seen it as a boxy car. It is a hatchback which means it has a naturally more upright profile. If there is a box there, its pretty vague... But like I said, I'm a former Volvo owner so I'm used to sharper edges on my box (or brick ).

Not really. I just don't think most of us ever thought of MINIs as box-shaped, especially compared to the xB or Element. When I look at mine, I see curves, not corners.

i think we're looking at the different parts of the car then
cause to me, my MCS is a boxy car. not like a "box" box like a
xB kleenex box, or right angles, but a "boxy" car meaning, high
profile/stance and rather a rectangular shaped butt.

Boxy or not (dang starry windshield), our cars are special. Smooth curves, distinct profile, easy to wash and wax, 30+ mpg, and just plain fun. My friends wife has an '03 Cooper and he just bought a new xB (turned his 4Runner in off lease). Jury is still out on overall satisfaction on the xB, but I think he's got a winner. Mrs. Moreorless also has a 4Runner and she now has her eye on a Black '05 MCSa. Two MINI's in the garage?

Sweet....

i beg to differ. the MCS is one of the smallest but then the
most pita cars to wash and wax imho, unless it's your daily driver
and you only need a mediocre job.

My 06 civic on the other hand is a breeze to wash and wax.
i washed and waxed last night in 1.5hrs. that's damn quick.

Moreorless, The only thing that beats two MINIs in the garage, is having three MINIs in the garage... or four... or five.

BOXY ? I find that word to be offensive when talking about cars. I reserve that word for the ugly sqare vehicles of the world... that Scion thing, or the Honda Element, the older Volvos, etc. But the MINI ???

"Clown Car". Oh, boy.

One of my former employees called the MINI Cooper a clown car when I told her I was ordering two of them.

Yes, I said "former".

I never would call the mini "boxy" either. Just doesn't seem to fit in that category.
