New Audi TT

http://www.audiworld.com/news/06/ttunveiling/
Having owned two TT's before, I think it is a stunning evolution of the original car. Funny thing about marque forums though, including ours here, many if not most of the MKI version owners are crying foul already, lamenting how their icon has been ruined. I hear similar stuff here over next year's new MINI. Face it folks, the automotive world moves on, and nothing stays static forever. My biggest concern with the new TT is the fact that its already hefty price tag will probably go up into the stratosphere.

I strongly agree with the Audi folks who are complaining about it. The current TT is one of the most distinctively designed cars around, but for the new one, it looks like they crossed it with a Lexus or a Solara or something. Very watered down, very disappointing; much more so than MINI's next gen.

There was no mention of the TT

hatchback that's been shown on the show tour.

Oh well. I guess the A3 has that covered, and is already expensive enough!

design. not my cup of green tea.

Whatever...

I think the standard one (or is it just the ragtop) will still be available.

But the TT is a great car to look at, and the hardtop is a ***** to see out of!

9 Reasons to Like the New TT

1) It ain't Japanese
2) 1st edition had driver to road connectivity issues
3) It ain't Japanese
4) DSG
5) It ain't Japanese
6) Quattro
7) It ain't Japanese
8) The new styling is less conservative than before
9) And it ain't Japanese

It may not beat a Z4 M Coupe on the track or Autobahn, but the DSG will have you out there doing F1 imitations, and Quattro rules. Oh, and it ain't disposable like everything from Japan. Not sure why the US public never really embraced the TT like other countries have, such as the UK. My neighbor has one of the final 1st edition TT's (silver/black). Looks great, but why buy the old when undoubtedly the new generation will be far more refined, even if the classic looks are now somewhat disguised. I do like it.

ugh

the profile looks like an acura.
less coupe, more poop.

bummer. wayyyy less aggressive & dynamic. i really dug how the wheel arches practically went all the way up to the hood.

drives the first gen further into its niche. it'll be interesting to see how many 1st gen'rs will buy the 2nd gen.

first thing I thought of when I saw it, the side profile of the new TT is horrible IMO. front looks ok, headlights are good, but the side is disgusting, looks just like the new eclipse.

1. Hate the creases in the hood, and down at the bottom of the doors--this looks like a step backwards in styling; almost looks like SUV rocker panels on the lower half of the car.

2. Front wheel needs to be pushed out toward the corners more--proportionally, it looks like there is just a tad too much overhang on the front. Just my .02.

Love the look of the old TT--it was unique--this is so pedestrian.

It has too many lines in it now. What I like most about the TT are the curves with no hard bends.

looking pretty bland and appliance-like too.... perhaps that's the styling
people like these days.

I was starting to think the original TT was beginning to look a little dated. The new version is just an evolution, nothing radical. If anything, seems Audi has missed the opportunity to pump up the power. Still has the same 3.2L, 250 hp motor. Good I'm sure, but it's up against more powerful competition. Anyone know when It'll be in showrooms? There's nothing about it on the Audi USA website.

Thanks for the kind words, Ken! I'm sorry if I offended you (somehow?) by poking fun at Japanese cars. I can promise you I wasn't directing any of that at you.

Anyway, I do like the G35 though, although I prefer a few other cars like the new Bimmer Z4 Coupe, and now the new TT. As far as Japanese cars, I've had a bunch like I'm sure most everyone. My all-time fav would be my '79 RX-7. First generation RX-7s can be had for near nothing today, and they're bullet-proof and still look the business after all these years. Great fun to drive, and can be built to the hilt. Most Japanese everything today lacks character. Which is why the MINI appeals to so many. It has character o'plenty.

Cheers!

It looks good.
