But lets clarify here ... this is NOT a discussion on speeding ... it was talking about what it "could" do with other drivers (like that dead guy ... Dean).

No ... IBTL CRAP (did someone say CRAP?)

especially if you were running up I95 and Tobacco Alley as that would be really bad with all the drug runners ... even years ago

Cops didnt pay much attention to 356s, especially when they NEVER exceeded the speed limit. (I keep forgetting that no one on this board has ever exceeded the posted speed).

it isn't an issue of exeeding the posted speed. its the issue of excessive speeding. This is my interpretation of the guidelines but speeding, per se, is OK. Where do you draw the line? Go here http://www.mit.edu/~jfc/laws.html Anything thats reckless driving, IMO, is Excessive Speeding. 16 MPH over is not (unless you live in VA in which case it IS).

The first time I drove my 63 VW from Wheeling WV to Randolph AFB, TX, The limit was 75 in KY and TN. I was going down the hills at 75 and up them at 65. Went hours without ever lifting. That was a longgg trip every time I did it. I couldn't tick-off a cop no matter how hard I tried.

My wife had a 65 VW bug, thing would even do 75!

Back then, my dream was to drive in Montana or Nevada with the R&P speed limits ... meaning none, pre 73 embargo. .... Back when CARS were CARS and MEN were MEN

When we finally got to the high desert of Nevade out on I70 up to Reno years later .... BORING. No sensation of speed at all ... just driving mile after mile with nothing but tumbleweed and visions of the twilight Zone ahead. Not even a radio station. Today .... Woot .... XM radio everywhere!

Made one trip to Nellis in 72 and went to Beatty with a friend to the wild burro races. Took his 68 BMW 1600 and a case of Oly. Big sign north of Vegas, something about your own risk and R&P. It is amazing we survived those days . . .

Go read in the 50s thread about that ...
