Insurance Question

Ok everyone,

Let's say on my insurance policy I have 6 cars. One of these cars I drive every day. The others are family cars. Whether it be a son, wife, other son or a car that just sits around waiting for a sunny day. NOW! Do I need to carry an insurance card for each of the cars? Or if I carry one card that says my daily driver on it that is enough?

I hate having 6 different insurance cards in my wallet. I am never sure what car I will be driving or have to drive for one reason or another. If my insurance policy # is on the card that should be enough to identify the fact that I am covered for the vehicle even if the vehicle on the card is not the one I am driving.............

Please share you knowledge or experiences! THANKS!

You need proof of insurance for each vehicle. I have no idea why you would carry that on you??? Just leave it in the glovebox ...

Is it safe to leave registration/insurance card in the glove box? I always figure that if someone steals/breaks in to my car....Why should i leave them info to now my name? Why be able to take my garage door opener to my home and get in there also? or more importantly to my Mini and 1954 Jaguar.

I keep spare copies of the insurance card in case such an event happens then I have all the info the ins. co. will need. I keep it in the locked glove box and always take the standard precaution of locking the car. In a previous vehicle I split the two and hid the registration elsewhere with other paper and always had it in the car but unless you knew where it was you couldn't find it in a reasonable amt. of time so if some got stopped and treid to pass it off as theirs it wouldn't work. and which is more likely loosing your wallet or having your car stolen. I do always bring the garage door opener in the house though and treat it like another key.

Is it safe to hand your credit card to some strange waitress after a meal? I'm not trying to be "cute" with that answer buy I see no difference other, in general. I would bet if you surveyed most car owners, their registration is in the car.

Some insurance companies give you one card for your wallet and one for the glove box. I don't think they'd do that if there was a horrible risk involved. I agree, keep on card in the glove of each vehicle and then one in your wallet. That also protects any of your family members from tickets for not being able to prove insurance at the time, if they dont have their card on them.

I think if your car was stolen the least of your worries would be that your address was in the glove box. My address is on my registration and that has to stay in the car.

i have the insurance card and a copy of the registration with the street address removed in the individual glove boxes.

when i lived in LA, i always had my house key detached from my car key
just in case i got car jacked. it was recommended by my cars buddies
who lived there all their lives so i just listened to them.

I had a friend who's car was broken into and their garage door remote was stolen, and the thieves obviously got a good look at their registration too, because not long after, their house was broken into. The thieves parked in the garage and cleaned them out (got in with the stolen remote). The easy way around that is to change the codes on your garage door opener if your remote gets stolen. It only takes about a minute to erase the old remote from your garage door opener.

We've had as many as four cars at one time in the past (for just my wife and I), and we would both keep one card in our wallets for the car we drove most, and then keep the other card in the glovebox with the registration. I got pulled over by an Ohio State Highway Patrolman for speeding a week after I bought the Mini and didn't have my Mini insurance card yet. I just showed him a valid card from another car I was driving and he let me off with a warning.

I live in Ohio and got pulled for speeding in my MINI and didn't have any of my insurance cards. The Cop asks "Do you have insurance?" I said "Yes." and that was the end of that part of the discussion. Maybe I look honest?

The policeman cut you some slack. No proof of insurance is a ticket-able offense.
