Car buried in 1957 to be dug up in 2007!
Well I just watched the KOTV clip from 6AM this morning & it doesn't look like you will miss much. The guy being interviewed said they were only unearthing at noon & then they would be unveiling at 7PM so it sounds like we will not get to actually see the car til tonight. I am still gonna watch at noon just to be sure I don't miss anything though
I had watched some of the other videos on the KOTV site. The woman in charge of the time capsule's unearthing was quite upset when she learned of the water infiltration. She says that whatever condition the car is in, it will be revealed to the public as is and remain that way. Via another link I found they have a companion car identical in every way to the one in the vault. People will be able to see what the intention was, and what reality gave us.
The lady went on in one interview about the steps that were taken to help prevent damage due to water. Among some of what was used was Cosmoline, the same waxy stuff that is used on our MINIs during their trip across the sea. So, here is a little connection from this event 50 years ago that impacts our (seemingly unrelated) comunity today.

Doesn't it seems stange, as exciting & unique an event as this has not received more national coverage. I mean had it not been for this thread I would not have even heard this was happening. You would think CNN or FOX News would be there covering the unveiling live tonight for all the USA to see.
OK I am on the oklatravelnet.com site waiting for the unearthing to begin. That is where I am supposed to be isn't it? I am a bit worried as the line above the video screen says "next live show July 4th, 2007"
Yep it's out now, show's over. The car & the time capsule have been put on a flatbed truck & hauled off. They said at least they know there is no structural damage. Also they do not know if the microfilm with the population guesses was put in the glove box of the car or the time capsule. They said even if it was put in the time capsule, the capsule could have leaked ruining the microfilm & they do not have alternate records of the people's guesses so hopefully the microfilm will be readable or they will not be able to determine the winner of the car. There is a hotrod guy who will be working on the car from now til 7PM trying to see if he can get it to crank. If you missed the video it will be archived in one hour for later viewing at oklatravelnet
That's it til 7PM tonight

"Buried with the car were 10 gallons of gasoline — in case internal combustion engines became obsolete by 2007 — a case of beer, and the contents of a typical woman's handbag placed in the glove compartment: 14 bobby pins, a bottle of tranquilizers, a lipstick, a pack of gum, tissues, a pack of cigarettes, matches and $2.43."
Beer and tranquilizers????? Are they saying everyone back them was one sheet to the wind?

Well the video kept cutting out & buffering during all the good stuff but it appears that Ms Belvedere is a rustbucket & there was no hope of starting her. They were able to air the tires up though. They are now going thru the contents of the trunk. So far they have pulled out the gas & the rusty cans of Shlitz beer. They are still hunting the ladies purse & the microfilm. They have cut to commercial breaks a few times & it seems that we probably missed some things during these breaks. They are now unsealing the time capsule.
That's about it thus far

They got the time capsule opened & it remained airtight. All the contents are in excellent shape. There is a US flag, some school records, a 1957 aerial photo of Tulsa, & UGH another stupid commercial break so we miss the rest of the time capsule contents
They said they still have not found the microfilm. Now they say they have found the original postcards that everyone wrote their contest guesses on. I think they were in the time capsule but I can't be sure because they discovered them during a commercial & now another dangblasted, dadgummed commercial
They keep finding more beer & are wondering how it migrated from the trunk to the front of the car. They found a disk in the front floorboard that could have been a ladies compact but the glovebox bottom had completely rusted out. They gave the population guess cards to some accounting firm & said when they had a winner it would be announced & if the winner didn't come forward something about the car being held in trust for 5 years & another commercial
They found a big glob of goo & are saying it's the ladies purse. They are showing the names of the people that signed the whitewalls of the tires. They think the keys are in the ignition. They polished a part of the chrome bumper & it looks good. They are not showing any good closeup camera shots of this like they should so with all the commercials I think I've seen enough so that's it for me
