Which pick up would you buy and why?

Respectfully a FORD fan.
P.S. here's one more-
FORD= For Out Running Dodges
The trailer brake comes standard on the F250 and F350. One other feature that I like about the big Fords is the extended outside mirror. The mirror can be adjusted to slide out farther if you are towing a trailer.
Ford has done a good job in adding these features into the truck from the get go so the owner does not have to go out and buy after market trailer brakes and the wide mirrors for the truck after they buy it.
Sunday we head out and test drive the Dodge with the sweet Cummins diesel. I myself don't really know if the Cummins is sweet or not, but the Dodge boys who own em say it is.

Ok, just got back from the Dodge dealer. The new mega cab as they call it is huge. Six can set in this truck with no problem. The mega cab option is an extra $5000 bucks
Test drove the truck, but somehow did not feel as sturdy as the Ford. The Cummins is not so loud at idle as the Ford but the inside felt kinda cheap.
Also the sales rep didn't know his product very well. He stated that the Cummins equipped Ram 2500 came with a 5 speed auto trans.
Oops...no the gas Rams do but not the Diesel Ram. It only gets the four speed. The tranny that most reports state have gone out on Dodge owners depending on how heavy a load they haul or tow.
My brother in law is a wiz at automobile facts, and I think he knows the specs on the Ford and Dodge and GM products better than most sales reps do.
I think that he will go with the Ford F-250 or the F-350 but don't know for sure

I love my mopars, we have 5 of them, but i wouldnt ever buy a new dodge product. ive heard too many horror stories about bad wiring harnesses, trannys going at 5k, engines starting to burn a quart of oil a week at 30k miles.... and the list goes on.
Our 97 F150 had done a great job since new, but, as tine has gone on, the truck is starting to deteriorate. The doors are just starting to rust ( just fixed them too, love por-15)
on our last car pickup run to georgia, the tranny started acting up, and its going to go sooner or later. it only has 74k miles.
other than that, the truck was a trooper. 2wd ext cab with a towing pkg.
my dad just bought top replace the f150, a 2006 Chevy silverado, with the 4.8L v8, and the tow pkg with the 3.45 rear end.
its just a base model, rubber carpet and cloth. only options are tinted windows and a CD player ( might not seem like much, but they are both a must on 20+ hour trips)
If i had to buy one, i wouldnt go for a new ford, but i like the new chevys alot. but, if i had to buy another used truck, i would jump right on a low mileage 97-03 f150, its probably one of the best, if not the best, all around truck ford has made.

Its really not my call but my brother in laws. Its his money. But after extensive reseach, the Ford F series is found to be the best selling truck in the USA and has been for the last 28 years.
The Ford pickups out sell GM and Dodge combined. When it comes to towing, the Ford folks got it right. They knew that 90% of the Ford owners of the F-250 and larger trucks buy them for towing. That said, they built the truck with the largest towing capability of any pick up on the road, with built in features like towboss best in class 5th wheel towing up to 19,200lbs
The towboss is the industries first intergrated trailer brake controller with ABS braking performance, then Ford ads a durable TorqShift auto 5 speed tranny with Tow/Haul mode. To complete the tow package, Ford offers telescoping trailer tow mirrors. All factory installed. Used to be, owners of pick up trucks that needed to tow, had to go out and buy after market stuff for their trucks, Ford had a better idea. Just include what the owners were asking for right from the factory.

3.42, not 3.45

Titan baby!!!
Between DH and I we have had a number of trucks in our lives. Right now we have a 2005 Nissan Titan Crew Cab. Most awesome truck ever! We still have our '94 Dodge Ram, it sits in the driveway with a total of 72,000 hellish miles on it. Biggest POS ever! Electical problems, tranny probs, you name it!!! The Ford we had before that I actually gave away (I really did, couldn't stand to look at it anymore and just handed the keys to the brother of a co-worker!)
The only Chevy I've ever driven was so-so, ran ok but never really loved it. It was about as exciting to drive as a lawn tractor. Prior to those I had a Datsun truck way back in the early 80's. It was a great truck but too small so that's when I traded it for the Ford. I really tried to be a good American and buy American products, but since they had no loyalty to me I didn't feel the need to be loyal to them.
I don't recall off the top of my head but I think the towing capacity for the Titan is about 9000 lbs, which is plenty for us.

I don't know about YTD sales since then, but through September 05 Ford had sold 694,690 F-series and GM had sold 757,649 Silverado/Sierra combined. I don't think you could go wrong with a Ford or GM truck.
My dad owns a 2004 Chevy 2500HD Duramax. We have a 44ft trailor with a goose neck hitch on it. Its a car trailor/living quarters. My dads truck is a single axel truck. His best friend works at JBA and is very high in management. An engineer came out to his house and said the truck would not tow that big of a trailor that we would have to buy a dulie. All i have to say is we proved that engineer wrong. The only thing we did was put a set of air bags on the rear to level the load out. No ecu tuning for more power or anything. Bone stock motor and that truck pulled that trailor up and down the mountains out towing big rigs and all on my way to norwalk ohio for a race and i live in MD. I am very impressed by the duramax and wouldnt get anything else. Very good truck to tow with i might add
.
Oh and i was towing it at like 80mph

Just as a update...he went with a new Ford F-350 Power Stroke diesel 4X4 loaded to the hilt. Rated to pull up to 20,000lbs
White with tan leather and power everything.
The MINI and the trucks were as different as night and day in every way, and I appreicate the MINI more now. Both the MINI and the large trucks serve a purpose for sure, but for me, I would't trade the MINI for one of those big lugs.

Bummer...I missed all the posts! I'll ad my two bits anyway - there are options from our overseas friends, but only if you're looking for some serious equipment:

Just something to think about for anyone else who ventures in here looking for a tow vehicle. Ford/Chevy/Doge all have their pros/cons, but anything beyond 10,000 towing is "stretching" the capabilities of what those vehicles are intended to do. Sure, they'll be "rated" to handle large loads, etc. but all that just adds up to extra wear and tear. Remember, these are all pickup trucks being beefed up to handling serious towing capabilities.
If you plan on driving daily and towying periodically, the big three have something to offer. If you plan on towing exclusively, make the jump from pumped up pickups into real trucks (Chevy and Ford make 'em too, but they aren't at your local dealer). The commercial trucks are just made sturdier from teh ground up. Difference is you won't find a DVD player option or leather seats in any of these trucks, but you'll get a truck that will hold it's value well and can pull a house if needed.
Here's a commerical Ford too:

hoopi, thanks for the mega commericial truck sites. One thing I and the brother in law did was to hang out a couple of times at the state fair grounds where there is always a horse show going on.
These cowboy types pull extra long and heavy horse and cattle trailers all over the country. They will at the drop of a hat, tell you what trucks work for them and why. I actually found out more than I really wanted to know
I think the fifth wheel they are looking at weighs in at about 13,000lbs wet weight. The big F-350 should be able to handle that with no problem.
While I did see three or four of the super mega commereical trucks, most were the big Ford F350's, F250's, Dodge 3500 Rams with the Cummins and the Chevy 3500 with the Duramax.
I don't know for sure, but I think the MINI may just fit inside the long bed of the big Ford
The big Fords were the trucks of choice (almost 4 to 1)for most of the cowboys and ranchers that we spoke with at the shows.

Found out today that my brother in law actually did check into the large comerical trucks, but his thinking was that yes the mega comerical trucks were designed to haul heavy loads everyday but the large trucks are not real practicle when you un-hook from your trailer and need to drive into town for a meal or to just go sight seeing in the area.
I thought they should have considered a large Class A diesel pusher motor home and pulled a MINI on a trailer behind the coach
But no....he wanted the pickup. Said the pickup would serve better if you needed to haul things. Heck I would like to borrrow the big Ford from time to time, but I think its gonna be on the road alot.
I do wish them well and hope they have lots of fun seeing this great nation of ours.
