VW Passat Commercial

Anyone seen that commercial with 2 guys tossing a football in the street... One guy says the other guy is out of shape, and so the guy tosses the ball so when he catches it, he bouces off the hood of the Passat, and it says

"Front End Pedestrian Saftey System, another standard feature on the newly designed Passat" or some crap like that.

WTH is a front end pedestrian safety system? And why do those fools at VW believe that some system that makes people I hit safer, believe it to be the best way to market their vehicle?

Waggy, I think that the European Union passed new pedestrian safety rules, which is why we've been seeing all the goofy new bonnet shapes in the '07 MINI concept cars, as well.

I laughed when I first saw the ad!

Personally, I'd be pretty pissed if some fat, out-of-shape, wannabe football player landed his chubby a$$ on the hood of my brand new car and slid off of it. . .I think that's one of the dumbest commercials I've seen in a long time. . .I think ole lumpy deserves a serious butt-whuppin' for his total disregard for a new car.

Just my opinion. . .

Luckily for VW, the average American consumer will remain ignorant of the fact that VW is incorporating this "feature" because they are required to by law in Europe, not just because they're being different and proactive and clever.

Its all good that new regulations make cars safer for pedestrians, but I seriously don't think its a selling point.

So pretend I plan on buying a new mid sized sedan:
Passat - better when I run over people
Accord - better value

Gee I should pick the Passat and run over some people?

Today I saw a new VW Passat and wasn't impressed. Yes it looks better than the new Jetta but what is it with VW imitating Toyota/Lexus designs? Yuck!

Exactly. The first time I saw this commercial I rolled my eyes because this is totally what they are doing.

"We willingly and without governmental influence raised our hood lines to a ridiculous height and messed up our front ends on purpose, so that in the very slim chance you hit someone, they won't get hurt as much."

Hmmm... I still don't get it. So hitting someone with a different shaped hood is supposed to be safer?

I'd think it would have more to do with materials used. That's why I think all front ends should be made of styrofoam. Better yet, let's not sacrifice body integrity. They had it right with steam engines. Cattle catchers would knock 'em to the side without harming the hood.

One of the things the new euro-laws require is more deformable space between the hood and engine, thus the higher and sometimes longer hoodlines. They must have a lot of car/pedestrian accidents to warrant
all the changes.

Yep this is it. When they smack the hood it has a larger space to crumple so the humanoid doesn't smack their hip right against the engine, the space absorbs some of the energy.

Funny, I had the opposite reaction.

I think the new Passat is gorgeous...and looks very Euro. I don't see any Toyota design in it at all (unlike the Jetta).

The two cars don't compete imo.

The new Passat is leaps and bounds ahead of the Accord. Even the last genreation was a better car than the current Accord.

The new Passat more similar to the Acura TL than it is to the Accord.

Too bad Honda can't just use the Acura TSX as the Accord, being that that is the Accord in every other country but here...

Did anyone happen to see the new VW commercial where they but their lunch in the glove bow, and say:

"An air-conditioned glovebox, just another option you won't find anywhere, you can on the new..."

I about **** my pants, not only is that crap (not in my pants), but it's false advertising, MINI should've pattened that idea so the german, german, grrr:impatient

We should all email VW!
