Help me find a the small car that beat a bike!

A friend of mine told me that he saw a video online showing a small car against a sportsbike and it the bike had no chance, except from the start... AND IT WAS ON THE TWISTIES!!! He said it is a prototype car that is suppose to be in production ( dunno when though). I want to see this video and i'm sure many will want to as well. Oh and he said it was a RWD, mid or rear engine. About the same size of our MINI's, but it had somekind of modified Integra Type R motor in it, or so it looked like it. So if any one can help find this video that would be great, cuz my eyes are starting to hurt from looking at the cpu screen for the last 4 hrs looking for it.

Yeah, thats a sweet car. Supercharged Honda Type R engine in a sub 1500 lb car is definitely amazing.

Darn, the english get another great car that we will never see on this side of the pond.

Maybe I could get one if I told them it was only for racing and then sneak it through DMV .........

Not true... I saw one this weekend on the street in Sherman Oaks, CA with California plates. Perfectly legal.

I thought you meant this one:

http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=19691

Quote from thread:
Okay, Here's the story.

It was last saturday night when I was on my way back from a group get together. Rich was behind me and Mr.Shoefly (stephen) was riding with me. I was curising around 80 or so and notice two motorcycle in front of me. I was curious to know what they were so I speed up a little to catch up. It turns out it was a Hayabusa and a very loud GSXR-1100. Both bikes sounded mean and I was telling stephen that they'll probably kick my butt if we race. I then pass them and proceed my way until I notice they both took off and try to do a flyby on me, so I down shifted to 3rd and took off with them just to show them I can hang with them. After that, I slowed down and they flew right by me. a couple of mins later, they slowed down and was waiting for me looking back and reving their motor. Since there was a hill in front of us, I didn't want to race until after the hill because I couldn't tell if there's cops waiting for us. I slowed down to about 70-75mph getting side by side with them. As we started to clear the hill, I downshifted to 3rd gear to let them know I'm ready. We took off at the same time and I gained .5 cars on the hayabusa. we raced side by side until I shut off at 165mph. He stayed .5 cars behind me. The GSXR 1100 was at least 6-7 cars behind me. After the race, I followed them to a gas station and they asked me wtf was do I have in there. I laugh and told them it's the same displacment as the hayabusa but I have a turbo in it. I later found out that the hayabusa has an air filter and an exhaust system in it so it was slightly modded. The guy told me that he races against modified vipers w/ n20 and C5s w/ n20 and none of them could even hang with him soon as he shifted to 4th gear but he was very suprised that I was right there the entire time. I told him what my car runs at that current state and that I still have the n2o system (another 80rwhp) which I didn't use when I raced him. He just looked at me and shake his head. Also, on a side note. He started out in 3rd gear and had to downshift to 2nd just to keep up with me starting from a 75mph. That explains why I was .5 cars ahead of him.

BTW, I was on race gas running about 24psi of boost but I didn't have my bottle with me.

So basically that's the story on that race.
A little about the car:
My car last dynoed at 570rwhp and 500rwtq thursday night w/ n2o and I ran a 10.61@135mph on radial street tires this weekend at houston raceway park. (you can see my time posted on www.nhraimport.com under houstoon race and look under the results

w/o n2o, my car dynoed around 485rwhp and 405rwtq.

So basically, I ran the hayabusa with 485rwhp give or take 10rwhp.

OH NO!!! Not a track car because it is street legal. It just happens to look like a track car.

I have a line on a couple in the US and will be the next car I get.
My MCS will be the Station Wagon of my house.

The Dragon next year may look very different.

it's very easy for a car to beat a bike through twisties...especialy if they are tight...with out any HUGE straights where a bike would dominate

the contact patch of a bike is somewhere around 1 in of rubber...where a car has prolly ten times that...I used to race bikes and I tried to catch a lowered mustang cobra once (on my Ducati)...much to my dismay and embarrasment I couldn't...

then I got to try it in my Mini...with 4 bikes following me...when I reached the bottom of the ehh hem track...I waited for what felt like ten minutes for them to catch up....

sure rider/driver skill maters...however there is only so far you can lean the bike and only so much ribber to hold you before you will fall or slide...you don't have to worry about that with a car...especially a mini

If you can turn a 2:00 lap at Thunderhill in your car then you can beat me at Thunderhill on my Yahama R1 (I run 2:01 - 2:02's there.) However, you will beat me on the street because there's no way in hell will I push a bike that hard on the street.

Still, a Mini will carry more corner speed than most bikes, if set up properly, and the car will obviously lose on the straights. Hard to beat the power to weight of a liter bike, at about 3.5lbs per horsepower (with rider.)

yeah that's my point...unless you are driving a supra with a single theres no way a car can keep up on the straight...but then again a supra with a single isn't the best handling car so it's kinda the oposite...you get one or the other for the most part

The Atom is pretty cool, especially in this day of econoboxes with big ornamental wings and porky luxoloungers that are marketed as sports cars. However they fudged a bit putting it up against the CBR600RR. They should have had a CBR1000RR, at 390lbs and 150 whp the story would have been different. Not to mention that the 1000RR is about 1/3 the price. But still I would take the Atom for a ride.

I took a stock MINI to Thunderhill and according to the on board computer I was averaging 60mph which is a three minute lap. It was unexpectedly slow. Pushed the front and slipped the tires all through the turns and only got to 100mph at the start line. I could easily do that on a stock 250cc 4 stroke bike. I checked out the lap times for a racing event and the fastest fully modified racing MINI did a 2:15 at Thunderhill. I was able to do that with no problem on a slightly modified street based 250cc 2 stroke bike.

my.... god......

that is the greatest thing i've ever seen. anybody have idea on price?

I'm still in college but my car of the future will either be one of these things or a vtech classic mini. which one do you guys think would be better?

:EDIT: argh.. starting at 67,000 for the 160bhp one? a little too pricey

:EDIT: again! found this on supercars.net

I'm talking to the U.S. Ariel distributor as we speak. They say the range will be from a 160 at $35,000, up to a full spec. optioned 300 for ~$55,000.
maybe it is in my price range =)

Matt, thanks for telling me about this thread!

I never thought I would feel that a Caterham has more amenities, and is more roomy than another ride - until I saw this. Wow! The new Caterham with the Cosworth 260bhp (NA) is right in the same ballpark though; but at nearly 30k (US) more

And while there are plenty of Caterhams here in CA, getting this thing on the road (public streets) might be a nightmare. I think I read that there is one street legal one in CA. If it will just be a track car, then fine, but I think many of us wouldn't mind cruising into work with this baby every now and then .

Here are a couple more interesting ones:

http://www.grinnallcars.com/content/...V/gallery.html

I wish we had something like these in the US!

Just saw that they have a North American distributor in OR. I fired-off an email inquiring about CA Atoms, and if any are in my area (SF Bay Area). If anyone is interested, I'll report back...

Keeping the paint nice and waxing should be pretty easy

Well, it appears that we don't build them, like a Caterham. They come turn-key, if I read correctly...
