See what you've done -?!
I ordered a 2006 Mustang GT yesterday!!

So things worked out a little faster than I thought..
Here's what I got:

2006 Mustang GT Fastback (4.6L V8)
Black
5-speed manual trans
Premium package
Interior upgrade package
Crimson red leather seats
Active anti-theft
Shaker1000 audio system
side air bags
17" 2 tone bullit wheels

delivery date is mid-October

maybe I got the hardtop twin to yours -!
but I'm planning dark silver racing stripes, sequential taillights, dark tinted glass, and aftermarket wheels..

(and yes, and I'm keeping the MCS! )

Congrats BartMack! Sounds like the hardtop twin of mine! I LOVE the red and black interior with the interior upgrade and the black exterior. It's beautiful! Dark silver stripes on the black though? Let me see what that looks like when you have it done.

The only thing I've done is change the Mustang visor's warning stickers. I think that's all I'm going to do.

COngrats again and welcome to the club. The MINI-Mustang club is one of the best combos out there!

I do have one question about the mustang that you might be able to help me with. I've heard that there is "torque Management' in the computer that keeps max torque from coming on even though the throttle is floored. I know it is a big thing with the GTO's and i've heard it is on the mustang as well.

Any insight on this?? I am thinking of the Shebly GT500 by early 2007 or so to replace the G35. If it has the torque management and it isn't able to be defeated, I might have to look elsewhere. My friends '05 GTO will accelerate like a Honda Civic if you stomp on the gas at anything over 3mph until it shifts into second!!

I'm not sure exactly what it is and how it works but it's only on the autos. It has something to do with when the auto changes gears. I'm not really sure - I wasn't very interested in reading about the Mustang auto trans. I usually skipped over those parts.

The Manual trans is great. When I hit the gas, I'm pinned. From a start with traction control off the amount of rubber you can leave is only limited to your imagination. And even with traction control you can still squeal the tires a bit. The traction control is yet another things Ford did right. They tuned it perfectly.

I'm so psyched!! I dropped in to see my salesman today and I already have a VIN (that's really fast) the expected production date is 9/12.

I also ordered new wheels and tires for the MCS from tirerack so I have something to keep my mind on while I wait I got Kumho Ecsta ASX all-season performance tires in 225/45 17 on ASA JS1 rims. These should look great with my silver bonnet/boot stripes on Hyper Blue, and they weren't expensive.

Oh yeah, I also ordered this mod not for the MCS..

Two things not even mentioned:

4 years from now which will have held more resale value, and

when in a crowd which heads turn to which car...

The MINI on both counts

The MINI on both counts
1 - When I titled the thread with the word "versus", it was for comparison purposes only. I wasn't really looking for this car is better than that car. I love them both. I will say this. I love them both. HOWEVER, I always love the Mustang. The MINI is a bit different although I still love it very, very much. If I've been driving the Mustang a lot, my first trip back in the MINI takes a little getting used to. The first minute or two I have a little trouble getting of the line and making smooth shifts. I say the first short trip in the MINI after driving the Mustang is a tad disappointing. But shortly after I'm totally in love with the MINI again - especially after taking a tight corner or hard curve or two.

2 - As to your remarks, Call, I disagree. Resale value I agree. But in my case it's a moot point. I plan on keeping my MINI until 150k miles or until it gives out so resale will be close to nothing or nothing. I'm also planning on keeping my GT conv as a second car for 7-10 yrs so resale won't mean much either.

3 - As to your other remark, MY mustang has gotten just as much attention as the first few months with my MINI. Now I'm sure all Mustangs don't get that kind of attention. But mine being the premium package GT convertible in black with a striking red interior gets noticed. Interestingly though the MINI was liked by more women - at least as far as who said something to me. With the MINI I'd say at least 1/3 of the people that asked about the car were women with 2/3 men. With the Mustang I've only had one women come up and ask me about the car and say she "really wants her husband to get one of these" while I've had 50 guys make positive comments and ask questions about it. I've had more guys ask me stuff at traffic lights about my Mustang in 3 months than I've had with the MINI in 3 years. People thought the MINI was cool. Most people don't even notice it any more. Yet people that like cars - sports cars, muscle cars, classic cars - they are in complete awe of my Mustang. They love the looks, the overall styling, the power, the sound, the classic styling cues, the throwback red interior, chrome and gauges.

Overall though, you can't really compare them. They are two completely different cars.

I hadn't driven my 65 for a while...

When I was started driving the Mini, they were about tied for comments. The Minis are more prevalent now, the Mustang gets more comments and looks now, without a doubt.

I was at the track this weekend with the mustang for the first time. It's quite different than the Mini. It's harder to drive fast, because you have to watch the throttle on corner exits. But it's got better balence, even if it isn't as rigid a platform. Very, very different beast.

It's not about what's "better", as that is very subjective, but you get quite a different driving experience from each. They're both good, just different.

I find the 2005 Mustangs to be quite different. I find you have to be careful going into a corner too hot yet you can come out of a corner like a rampaging beast with ease. Now in something tight like an autocross the MINI will kill it. But on a track or road with curves and turns, I'm not sure. There's this 180 degree off ramp off a highway near me that I'm on once or twice a day. The curve starts very tight but but opens up in the second half. I can go into the curve 10-15 mph faster with the MINI with ease but I can come out of the curve at 15-20 mph faster with the Mustang. So I'm not sure which car goes through faster but even if it is the MINI, the Mustang comes out going at a much higher speed and will pass the MINI up in a second. Like Dr Obnxs said, they're both very good cars but they're both very different. So different it truly is apples and oranges. And lucky for me they are my two most favorite cars in the world. So ultimately, I don't really have a favorite. Well, unless it's a beautiful 70 degree day or a gorgeous dry, no clouds in the sky evening. Then the Mustang wins because it's a convertible.

GreatGro,

I agree when comparing two of anything, why does it have to be one is better than another. Both can be great. From my vantage point my comments did not address your opinion or challenge anything you said I just added to what you had to say. My comments do not infur one is better than the other, either. From your vantage point you are only stating your observations and from my vantage point I am stating my observations. We live in two different parts of the country. Opinions can differ without either being wrong or for that matter right. I'm sure you love your cars whichever they may be...that's why you have them. I am a fanatic about my cars...that's why I own three MINIS. Oh, and by the way, I have owned two Mustangs. I did take a beating on both of them when I sold them after having bought them new. I do not remember anyone drooling over the Mustangs like they do the MINIS.

I hope you continue to love everything you have and have everything you love.

I too had two mustangs previously. Like your experience, I took a beating on one of them resale wise. Also not too many people drooled over them. But this 05 is different. WAY DIFFERENT.

I hope you continue to love everything you have and have everything you love.
Thanks Call. Same to you.

BTW, Call. I see you are from Georgia. That's where I got my 05 Mustang from. Duluth Georgia. Then it was sitting at the shipping company's lot in Jonesboro for 2 weeks. That was in May.

Well, logistically (I still am unsure if I have a firm understanding of that word) speaking, while at a traffic light in a convertible with the top down, rather than a hard top with your windows up, you'd be much easier to access to make comments to about your car, perhaps that's a factor. =) Oh, and was my use of the word "logistically" approprriate in the previous statement?

I don't think so, but perhaps logistically wasn't the best word to use either. Hrmm, maybe logically would have worked too. But can you tell me specifically, whether or not logistically was incorrectly used in my statement? That's what I'm unsure of.

So you mean the logistics of a passerby being physically able to pass on compliment easier in a open-topped vehicle. That makes sense to me!

No - not a factor. I got my MINI in the fall and had my windows and sunroof open all of the time. Besides, at lights the comments and conversations I was talkiing about are from adjacent drivers - not pedestrians. Although many pedestrians do yell out compliments as I pass by.
