Going to sell Honda, need pricing guidelines...
I'm selling my Dad's Honda, have created a webpage for it, but wanted to know if anyone here could give me an honest to goodness idea what I should be able to sell it for. I've listed all the faults I can think about it. the KBB value does not give me any help - it has quite a bit of rust, so I cannot get a good idea of what someone would pay for it. I'm tempted to part it out and sell the pieces on eBay, but I feel my neighbors would NOT appreciate a car on cinder blocks.
BEFORE I post a URL, I want to make sure it is OK to post this here - any mods want to chime in? If it's any consolation, the support I'm receiving from my parents to buy the MINI I have on order revolves around me selling the Honda and a Go-Kart.
Thanks!
John

Here's how to price a car to sell.
Here's how to price a car to sell. Get current recommended prices from Edmunds.com; NADA website, and Intellichoice. That will tell you range of what it is worth. Go to Cars.com and autotrader.com and that will tell you what people are currently asking. Go to completed items on eBay and see what the low ball is, except in cases of cars that have high resale. Use all that data and come up with an asking price and a drop dead sell price. You'll have a pretty good range.
Well, when I put our car up for sale (1996 Honda Civic DX which is the lowest model, no power steering, crank windows, 105 hp engine, etc...), i looked at it as, "How much is it worth to me?". Then I did a lot of research seeing what they are selling for on the internet, kbb.com, edmunds.com, local paper, etc... I then chose a price that was between the two with about $500 extra for negotiating.
If the car is a rust bucket and hardly worth anything, you may want to consider donating it and getting a tax write off for it. It'll be helpful come tax time and it is really easy to get rid of the car!!! They usually will come and pick it up for you if it runs.

We did think about that route, but think we will get a bit more for it by selling it outright. I'm thinking $700.00 OBO is the best asking price, since it needs some work. That's about half of what the 90 Civic's are selling for.
