I ended up going to a Mitsu dealer last December to see what all the hype was about.

I ended up leaving with an Evo 8 that evening.

I traded in my MCS.

The evolution 8 is a phenomnal car.

On the track - on twistie roads - or highway cruising - in the wet - or in the snow - the Evo can do it all.

I loved my MCS, but got tired of it and wanted something new.

Motor on!

I traded in the MCS and got 16.5k for it. I probably could have gotten more, but it was somewhat of an impulse buy... lol... Gotta love the turbo.

The Evo was about 29k out the door.

The car has performed flawlessly and the handling is incredible. I'm still amazed at how well this car performs.

I'm thinking of getting an MCS again down the road (still lurk on the boards..)

Lucky for me, my brother had an Sti and my uncle has an Evo MR. After driving both I still love the Mini. All wheel drive and lots of power is great, but no sunroof or cool interior kind of detract from the driving experience. Why can't we get Recaro seats in a Mini, though! All wheel drive, to. Also I really took notice of how much harder the Sti is to drive..the shifter is rough and the clutch is really heavy & has sensitive engagement. The MR on the other hand is nice to drive all around. The seats are one of the best parts of the car.

May I ask which model did you get for 29k because my sister got her two a week ago for 34k.

This goes out to all the people that say the Evo is not as fast as it seems, doesn't handle that well, is heavy and blah blah blah.

Not sure how many of you have heard of this but a British FQ400 Evo 8 (as in a larger turbo putting out another 110hp) spanked a brand spankin new AWD Lamborghini on the race track. The Lamborghini was driven by British touring car champion - the Evo was driven by a automotive reporter (Top Gear).

Here is the link to the Video - its a great clip!

http://hkoski.pp.fi/evo/FQ400-Topgear.wmv

This again shows that, for what its built for - incredibly fast, reasonably practical & inexpensive - the Evo is amazing!

That said, i still believe that the MINI, with light wheels, equally sticky tires and an aggressive alignment handles and steers considerably better than the Evo. At least in my experience.

but it won't beat a lambo without hell of a lot more power.

If i remember correctly from the video, they also put a 320HP Evo MR on the same exact track and it ran less than a second slower than the Lambo. Getting the Evo up to 320HP is a matter of a few hundred bucks.

The MC or the MCS is nowhere near the same league. I love my MC and the fact that I drive an MC and not the MCS shows that I am not into power power and more power, but people not giving credit where credit is due because they have something against the Evo is silly. The car was designed to give you more performance per dollar than any car in the world - and it does.

I'm sure the performance is great. My problem is it's the ugliest car in the world hands down. I don't care if they had a 500hp/500 torque EVO for $20k and it handled better than a modded MINI. If it still looked the same I wouldn't be caught dead in it or even looking at in my driveway.

They have tons of after market parts that you can chance to what ever your preference is. You can make it from ugly -----> pretty.

I wasn't addressing comments like that. I understand why people don't buy Evo's. I didn't buy, and I won't buy it. I love my MINI and prefer it over the Evo any day. But there are a number of people out there that don't beleive that the Evo is fast. The video I posted should demo just how fast the thing is.

If someone came up to me and said here is a 35K Evo MR, trade me for your 04 bare bones MC that cost you 17K, I would have to think very long and hard. If someone came out to be and said go set the fastest track time..... hmmm...

No way. 9 times out of 10 aftermarket visual parts just make cars uglier.

The closest I've been to observing what an Evo can do is riding shotgun in a rally prepared Evo6. It was a charity ride at one of the Laughlin Ramada Express Rallys, at the Superstage. Under acceleration, the noise from all four wheels shooting rocks at the body almost drowned out the differential whine. Happens to be the car shiney side down in my gallery.

Scary, with my skills I better stick with a FWD lower powered car, I don't want something like that to happen to me at any time in my life, thats for sure.

Sucks to be that guy too, unless he got insurance for the track...

the same car, the fq400, needs servicing every 3K, and is much more expensive compared to the next lowest version. But still, it did win!

My brother has an evo and he got it 25k out the door, it was the end of the model year and they wanted to get rid of it! I have driven it a couple of times and it is fun to drive and easy to speed in!! One time i was on the freeway and i pass someone and leave it in 5th and when i look down i saw that i was doing way to fast, it is an ok car, i am not big on the interior but if you want a fast car cheap this is it for you!

OK i drove it again last night, by myself, so that means there will be zero babying on my part. I go to make a left turn onto a main road and i floor it, whoah the back end brakes loose and i correct and i keep in it until the end of second gear! It was a rush! Then on my way back to the house a guy in a wrx pulls up next to me at a light and starts revving at me, so i return the kindness and rev back, the light turns green and we both launch like it is nobody's business, i keep in it till 55 mph the speed limit and i was a good car length ahead of him. I then make my left turn onto my road and go home and return the car.
This was my face when i was done
The car also gets my of approval!

I have droven both EVO IV and 2006 STi. I think the new STi has more power than the EVO now. The one you met on the traffic light I bet it was not a 2006, isn't it?

EVO factory clutch is not that good, but acceptable compare to a new STi which is a bit more precise and solid.

it is not anymore power than before.. it is just that the STi has literally no turbo lag.. all I have done to my EVO is an exhaust.. I have the intake sitting around here.

You may be right about the lag, but the new STi has all that torque comes at 1800rpm. That's may be another reson as well.

Yes, called a smaller turbo for the application yet it makes the same power.. all about boost, size of turbo, and such.
