Best Practices for Window Tinting: Questions and Advice

Hi everyone,

I’m considering getting my car windows tinted and wanted to get some advice from those with experience. I’m curious about the legal limits for tint percentages in different states, the pros and cons of various tint types like ceramic vs. dyed, and how tinting affects visibility, especially at night.

I’d also like recommendations for professional installers versus DIY kits, what’s worth it and what should be avoided. Finally, I’m interested in long-term maintenance, how durable is window tint, and does it fade or bubble over time?

Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

You'll have to either Google search for local tint laws, or ask your local tint shops. Most reputable shops will tell you what the legal limits are. It is in their best interest to know.

Most current tint products are pretty durable. If you are in San Antonio, might want to spend a little bit more on a ceramic based tint, as those have higher UV rejection.

Window tinting can really improve comfort and privacy, but laws vary by state, so check local limits first. Ceramic tints usually block heat better and last longer than dyed tints. Professional installation is usually worth it to avoid bubbles and peeling and proper care, like gentle cleaning, helps it stay looking good for years.
