MCS Vs. S2000
MCS Vs. S2000
Alright guys and gals here's the situation. My sister has been talking my up my 03 MCS to this boy she know's who owns a S2000. Now I dont have to much done to my car just a CAI and B&B Tri Flow Cat back but my car is still pretty quick
. But I am not sure if it will beat a S2000? So has anybody with very little mods raced one before? I jus want to make sure I beat rice and not get beaten.

Dude,
What colour do you want your coffin to be? A stock S2000 should beat a stock MCS on just about any way to Sunday.
Remember the only acceptable place to race is a drag-strip or an auto-x course where you are racing the clock and not each other.
Still, you are representing all of MINIdom, so do us proud and stay within a couple of tenths of the S2000.

If I raced him in auto-x I know I would be him, this kid doesnt look like he can drive plus mommy and daddy bought him the car. And my car goes in the shop this month for pulley upgrade and ECU upgrade so im thinking about waiting til that is done.

Well, whatever you do, keep it safe.

Hands down - the S2000 will take the MCS. I sold my Suzuka Blue before we made our move out West...
Sure did love that car but I had to make room for my Cabrio...
As I'm sure you already know, comparing the two is like apples and oranges...
Chow!

I have a Silverstone S2000 and it scoots. Check the tire wear, if he's pushing the bald side you might be able to take him. They get real squirrly on slicks. But if it's straight line? Don't bet more than you can afford to loose.

Thanks Ill Keep that in mind

Car vs car, you'll lose. The only thing you have to see is how good of a driver are the both of you. A good driver behind the wheel of a MCS could very well beat an average to inexperienced driver of an S2K. Keep in mind, if you win, you beat the driver, not the car.
The torque numbers are pretty close, with 153ish (if memory serves correct) on the S2K, and 155 for the MCS. But the hp is 240 vs 163 in favour of the S2K. It also has a good second and a half or so less in the 0-60 time in comparison to the MCS, with around 5.3 or so vs like 6.8secs.
I checked into one seriously before coming to the decision of my SVT Lightning that I had. Nice car though. Winds up forever. Takes a bit to get used to in order to get it going good.
How long has the kid had it? That would show whether or not he knows enough about the feeling of the car to drive it right. Any mods to his? I'd at least wait until you have the other mods before slapping anything down, if you plan on it betting.
Let us know how it goes.
Cheers,

with one's driving ability? If a fair to moderate driver in a stock S2000
should be able to take a MCS...
Mid-Life Crisis Cars
My wife and I purchased a 2000 S2000 for her when her 1996 Corolla GTS died at 190,000 miles. We love it and it is fast. It was intended to resolve her mid-life crisis and has worked well so far.
I, on the other hand, resolved my mid-life crisis when I purchased a used 2003 MCS/JCW with 8,000 miles on it. Fast enough, slightly more practical, and better gas mileage (35 vs 26 between LA and Tucson).
Yes, the S-2000 is faster in a straight line. Take both cars to Topanga Canyon or any other really winding road and the odds improve markedly for the MCS. Between the front-wheel drive and sufficient low-end torque I would suggest that the MCS might actually prevail.
In all other respects, I prefer the MCS as it rides a little better, has better sound, better visibility, and more creature comforts. It can even carry two children or bilateral amputees in the back seat. Can't do that with the S2000.

I too think about an S2k every now and then, for a summer fun car. They have a well-proven SC upgrade, I think Comtech, that adds an additional 90 to 100hp - or 340 total
. Torque is still relatively low though. At least the newer ones have 2.2 liter engines (longer stroke, I believe). I think the first ones were 2.0s...
I would ditch the top and all related hardware to lighten her up. I think 2,600 pounds would an achievable goal weight...
Project MINI still has another year or so, but after that, time to decide upon the summer wheels.

I own both cars as well, and I think street racing is dangerous and really pointless.
However coming from a track perspective, I'm on the track with MCS's all the time (one of the reasons I bought one). From my experience, the S2000 walks away quickly from the MCS on the straights, but is usally eaten up in the corners by the MCS.
My S2000 is fairly well track prepped, but it still will have a tough time with a good driver in an MCS on tight corners.
