645Ci test drive. Unbelievable!
I got to drive a 645Ci today (convertible) during the Ultimate Drive BMW does every year. I have to say this is about the most perfect car I've driven. Granted I haven't driven much except Japanese 4 bangers, but oh man, this car blew my mind.
At the first straightaway on the route, I floored it past the kick down notch and that thing flew! It literally pinned me in the seat. Then I figured out the sport mode button. Turned that on, and it revved and shifted even more aggressively. Oh my I was happiest as I could be driving a $70k worth of automotive beauty. The best thing about this car is the engine. This engine is the smoothest and creamest engine I've heard and felt. Great power delivery throughout the range and the deep, slight growl sound is amazing. I kept flooring the pedal to hear that amazing sound over and over.
Steering was also excellent. Not too heavy but not too light and the wheel is nice and chunky with an excellent feel.
A few things that I couldn't get the hang of was the steptronic mode. It felt really weird, and seemed to respond a bit after my shifts. Also idrive was pretty confusing. Given I only had 20 mins to drive the car and most was it was on actually driving, I couldn't figure out how to turn off the radio, which I ended up just lowering the volume. And the turn signal stalk. Had a very soft, mushy feel to it I just needed to get used to.
Overall the car is excellent, with a great driving position, and the smoothest engine possible. The car is just extremely smooth, it's one word that I can use to describe the car best. Smooth and creamy. Ride is very relaxed, no harsh vibrations of any sort. Ah, best part is the engine not sounding like it's gonna blow up past 5k like my Honda, heck even at redline it sounds fine and very calm.
And the worst part of my day...was when I had to get out and turn the car over to some lucky fellow and his wife and let them have their fun and go back into my Accord. When I turned the engine over reality set in.
It was a great experience and I loved every minute of it. All the drivers were flogging the cars, as one kid in an X5 tried to race me. lol. And a bigrig kept revving his engine at me. I can see why quite a few people consider the 645Ci to be the best GT in the world.
Now ONE problem. I'm about to take delivery of an MCS by end of this month or early August. Did I just ruin any chances of me having fun w/ my MCS? I haven't driven an MCS yet so have nothing to compare to but maybe there are those of you who can answer my question and calm my fears?

Well...consider it keeping my MCS virginity if you will. lol Only about a month to go and figured I'd be in for a nice surprise then
Not to mention I don't want to make the wait any more unbearable.

This is still my favorite shot of the 645i

It wasn't until I saw it in the flesh in this color the I "got" it. At that point, I also started to "get" the 5-series as well (sorry, still no hope for me and the 7 though).

Yeah 5 is definitely my fave, and I do admit the 7 series is a bit hard to swallow. It's those two huge reflector strips on the trunk lid that kinda makes you want to hate it.
