Beautiful Karmann Ghia! I've always admired these cars and have sometimes wondered why they're not more popular than they are. Then, I remember their tendency to come "pre-rusted" from the factory. I used to know of a number of them and all have returned to the great iron oxide mine in the sky....but heck, down in TX and out in the SW, there are probably a few still driving around.

Yeah, I've been infatuated with the Ghia since highschool. By the time I graduated from college and was ready for my first big post-grad purchase, I reluctantly came to my senses and realized that purchasing a 30 year old car for a daily driver when I have no training on servicing such a vehicle would be stupid. So... I bought a MINI! But I have already vowed that once the MINI is paid off, I will immediately purchase the Ghia of my dreams, as a fun "weekend" car. I figure if I drop one car payment and immediately pick up another, I won't even miss the money. Unfortunately, I have a few years to wait, look, and admire.

This one is incredibly gorgeous and I would LOVE to own it. I drool every time I see one (and I do see a few down here in Texas)- even the ugly primer colored ones riddles w/rust!

A friend at college had a red one.

It's such a friendly little car.

Make mine with a Porsche 356 engine.

Thanks for the memories.

Hope you follow your dream and get one soon.

I think it's a great plan to buy the Karmann Ghia for a "fun" car in addition to the paid-off MINI. And remember, those things have a Beetle's drivetrain...so learning how to service it is a very straight-forward task. They didn't call them (Beetles) the people's car for nothing.

btw...I'd suggest that you attempt to replicate the entire Maxwell Smart automotive repertoire. You'll also need a Sunbeam Tiger (seasons 1 - 2) and an Opel GT (season 5) ...but those are mighty fun too!

That's one of the prettiest Ghias I've seen in a long time!!! Most of them I see on the road around here are "less pristine."
