I have come to my senses and realized that the MINI just is not working out as a family car. The Magnum will give me plenty of interior space, and PLENTY of horsepower! Yes, I know, it is a wagon....but it is a 340 horsepower wagon!
Thoughts?

outside - looks cool
inside - typically cheap american plastics
Verdict - "EH! That thing gotta Hemi?" Is all you'll hear at stoplights

also, moving to OT: Autos

When are they going to give the designers at Chrysler some sharp pencils? I swear, they seem incapable of drawing anything that isn't a big, blockly, shape. I look at that (and it's basically a Chrysler Pacifica, right?) and all I can think of is fat and heavy. I realize that this is their traditional demographic - and it works ok with minivans - but other than the hardcore Mopar fan, who'd really want to drive around in that brick with wheels?

yes the inside is very cheap looking inside (and to the touch) but it's a sport-wagon and thus cool as hell. Why people by suvs over audi wagons, bmw wagon, or even the new magnum is beyond me.

I agree wholeheartedly about the coolness of sport wagons and have never understood why people think wagons are un-cool whereas riding around in big dumb trucks (when you don't actually have a lot of big dumb stuff to haul all of the time) is cool. But relative to the BMW or Audi, the Magnum just looks so...juvenile. I can't decide which part makes it look more like a Hotwheels car, the blocky slab sides or the ridiculously sized wheels.

Going from a MINI to that thing is quite the leap. It's too hideously excessivley large. If you have to come to the point of where you must give up the MINI, I'd try a little something less fugly. But you did ask our thoughts.
Cheers,

I like sleepers, and generally sportswagons are sleepers. Gimmie an Audi S4 Avant, or a BMW 5 Series Touring and I'm a happy camper. Another new fave, the VW Passat wagon with the W-8 and 6 - speed gearbox, Woo Hoo! I like the Dodge Magnum in concept, although I haven't seen one yet. The hemi power is right, but the looks are a little too much for a sleeper. Gotta see one to really opine however.

Back in the days, we had a 427 equipped Chevy wagon, that rat motor hauled! Another favorite are street hemi pick-ups from the late 1960s. But that's another thread.

BTW have you considered one of these:

I recently picked up a certified pre-owned 3 series wagon with sport package/manual transmission and couldn't be happier. It's the perfect car to compliment the MINI as it has tons of versitle space and with a great sport tourer. Just a thought...

I have always told myself not to consider BMW's until I can swallow the cost of an M5.

That interior looks like an early-80s Chevette or Cavalier! Does it really look that bad in person?! What were these guys thinking?

Bisch, I wholeheartedly agree with others who have pointed out that you're skipping over a lot of good cars by jumping from the MINI to this hulking beast. Something like a Honda CRV or Ford Escape would give you better fuel economy and more space, if space is what you need. Have you considered a wagon like Jetta, Passat, or Subaru Legacy, or are you hung up on the wagon=lame thing?

Fuel economy shouldn't be too bad. It has the new variable displacement Hemi. It shuts down 4 of the 8 cyl. when not needed. Okay, I can't even fool myself. If I'm driving, that baby will be on 8 all the time!
I've done the VW, Honda and Subie thing. I want something new/different. Hence, I own the MCS.

I would like to have an M5, but I can't crack that nut right now. If I got a 328, I'd always wish I got the 330. If I got the 330, I'd want the M3. If I got the M3, I would surely wish I had the M5. With the Magnum I wouldn't have those thoughts of needing one "series" better. I have had mostly unique vehicles in the past, so I guess that is what I need. The MINI is a great car and I love it, but they are everywhere now. It is loosing it's unique-ness. Kinda like the miata did. I know, in soon enough time there will be Magnums everywhere too. But, will they have the 500hp that mine will?

I agree with you about the S4 Avant. There is just something about a practical wagon with a big engine dressed in subdued clothing. Audi S4 Avant: stealth, beautiful interior, elegant, sexy like a MILF.

As for the Magnum, much to squared-off, huge, clumsy headlights, and a grill trying to pose as a truck. YUCK!!!

I think it looks alright.

If the production model doesn't turn out so bland as the
Pacifica, it'll probably do pretty well in the enthusiats groups
if there is such a thing for wagons...

How about... A WRX wagon??? Styling, IMHO, sucks, but reasonably priced
and quite sporty!

I agree with Gabe, I test-drove a 2002 328i wagon and it was roomy, and
still sporty. I think after coming from the Mini, the Magnum will feel
gigantic and ponderous. Heck even driving a rental Chrysler 300M I have
this week feels big and ponderous compared to my MCS. But hey, it's
someone elses car and gas

WRX wagon...hummmm... it looks great if you mod it.
I would probably do a Saab 9-2 wagon if i was going to
decide between the 9-2 and WRX wagon.

but i still think Audi wagons look the best. Mazda wagons
are cheap and looks good too...

I'm with kenchan (and not just cuz he's got a VERY cute partner either) Audi A4 Quattro wagons rock......I hyperventilate every time I go to Stoddards (which by the way has the best body shop in the Universe) and look at the used ones.......madame tresurer would for sure sick the dogs on me though......I am on VERY thin ice lately.....LOVE the looks of the Magnum. Never owned a Chrysler, this one would make me look....never even been inside a Chrysler showroom (now THAT is weird)

I think it's really ugly.
I'd rather drive something attractive and slower.
