Chevrolet Volt

This is for people who think their MINIs are too loud, or too fast, or too exciting. I have been discussing this car on another forum, mostly in the political aspect. A local dealer has been advertising on the radio to take a Volt test drive (what, not the Camaro or Corvette?).

I am all for electric cars, in theory anyway. The bigger scandal is that apparently there is a limited market for engaging, fun to drive cars. From my perspective any car that does not provide this just shouldn't be built (utility vehicles excluded, of course). As for electric cars, "range anxiety" issues are going to have to be dealt with and I don't see that happening right now.

Aaagh. This thing frustrates me. It should have a diesel generator that has zero connection to the wheels whatsoever to recharge the batteries, not a gas assist when the batteries die, like the Prius.

That said, I've been seeing them here and there lately. Saw one on my morning commute today, actually.

Just to clarify, there is no driveshaft from the generator to the wheels.

GM has halted production for awhile, to allow demand to catch up with inventory.

For curiosity sake, the speed record for an electric car is 321 MPH.
The electric land speed record 2004

gokart, see the Shelby Super Cars Aero EV? Ridelust: Land Speed Record
208 MPH.
