Is the 05' mustang too much ?
Hey All,
I don't get to this board much like I used to, but I wanted to know if any of you are considering trading for the 05' stang? Before you dismiss the notion, be sure to check out one of the many 05' mustang pictures. The car is being officially unveiled tomorrow at 1:15 ET. I have not been tempted to trade (despite the many problems that I've experienced with many quality) until seeing the pics just today. Prices won't be out until tomorrow. Let me know what you think, would ya?

The new Mustang is a beaut. I especially love the Fastback. I hope the production model does not change much from the show car. I think Ford is doing some amazing stuff. The Ford GT has got the automotive press in a tizzy, comparing it to the Ferrari Modena and the 911–supposedly a wonderful car.
I definitely would not turn down a test drive. But at the same time, I still love my MCS.
Hopefully a friend will buy a new Mustang and I will be able to enjoy it some without giving up my Mini.

From the Pre-release press buzz the GT is supposed to have a supercharged 5.4 liter V-8 producing 390 BHP, the same engine that is in the Harley Davidson F 150. Just makes you wonder what the SVT and Saleen Stang will be producing. YEEEEEEEEEEHHHAAAAAAAA!!!!!!

"The 2005 Mustang's engines and transmissions will be upgraded across the board, but only the base 3.8L pushrod V6 will be replaced. The concept cars were shown with the 4.6-liter dual-overhead-cam supercharged V8 used in the 2003 SVT Cobra (the current ultimate Mustang), tuned to generate an impressive 400 horsepower. The GT features a six-speed manual transmission, while the Convertible has a five-speed automatic. Expect the same engine/transmission combinations in the most expensive next-generation Mustangs. "
"Below that, there will be two more variants of the 4.6-liter V8: single-overhead-cam with three valves per cylinder, and dual-cam with four valves per cylinder, both normally aspirated. Lesser Mustangs will have a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. The new base engine will be a variant of Ford's current 3.0L overhead cam V6, now offered in the Taurus sedan, producing a little over 200 horsepower. "
"That is a big deal. Mustang might be the most recognizable name on any car made anywhere in the world, but this sporty coupe hasn't been completely overhauled since 1979. Indeed, Ford has started from scratch with the Mustang only three times since the original was launched in 1964. The next generation will retain the Mustang's familiar proportions and front-engine, rear-drive layout, updated with technology that brings the car more firmly into the 21st century. Yet Ford promises that it won't stray from a formula that still appeals to car buyers 40 years and eight million copies after the first Mustang was sold. The 2005 'stang will remain "fun, fast and affordable." Mustang created the category that came to be known as the pony car (for the horse on the Mustang's badge), and four decades later it again has the class to itself. Dozens of similarly conceived cars have come and gone, but when General Motors killed the Pontiac Firebird and Chevrolet Camaro in 2003, it left the market for rear-drive, sporty American coupes to the Mustang."
"As Ford proceeds with an expensive redesign, Mustang's icon status becomes a double-edged sword. Those who buy V8-powered, performance-oriented versions of the current car are mostly males in their 30s and 40s. Most Mustangs sold today are six-cylinder models, often convertibles and mostly to women in their 40s and 50s."

>>I like it, dont care for the tailights but I love the retro look. Would I trade in my mini for one? Probably not...but it would look nice next to my 1967 mustang in the garage.
It would like really really nice next to your classic mustang (lucky you)
Just like the classic mini looks great next to the new MINI.
The contrast and comparison is a natural eye catcher.

My bro has a 67 Stang in his garage...(shop)... it's been under a car cover for 20+ years
But
I luv the Ford GT. Now that's gonna be a class act
For those interested ... I found out recently that you can purchase a brand new AC Cobra from South Africa as all the molds and manufacturing equipt were bought and shipped there ... some years back.
In glass it's 60+ K... no engine and no trans
In metal it's 90+ K... no engine and no trans
Peace,

i also thought the new mustang looked cool. very retro. but after seeing what actually made it into production from the prototype photo's i am sad. the head lights look like bunk now and it is smaller. the new issue of hot rod has the car on the cover, take a look. i like the new c6 vett way better......

and here we go... official 2005 Mustang photos:

Personally I think a lot of the design details are fairly dissapointing. The wheels and the rear quarter windows take a lot away in comparison to the show car.

Hmm... Something about the rear quarter window just doesn't look right. It exaggerates the visual mass of the B pillar and makes the side profile look chunkier than it really is.
Nice to see that Ford's patented Back-Buster(tm) seats carry over the new model, as well.

just looking at those pictures. the shift **** is way too stubby for the
height of the center console (put a can of pop in that can holder and
expect a mess on your sleeves), seats look like pinto seats with no real
lower side bolsters (not sure why it reminded me of an old pinto...) ....
not sure if they were consider it to be a driver enthiast's
car or just a collector car like wat they did with that big convirtible thingie.
t-bird was it? even so, they went cheap on the tires and wheels...

He's a collector Kool....
He bought a Boxster S a few months back and already got rid of it..... for one of those hugh Ford SUV's...loaded w/ all kinds of crap (can't account for taste ...lol)
I actually looked at the Stang this weekend. (well yesterday as I had to go visit there)
It's black w/ retro Crager Mags on it (they are just tooo kool looking... a bit of history for me). We couldn't find the dam keys but it looks ...driveable...
I'll make it a project for this week
Peace,
D

Yikes, they really killed the look of the headlights for the production version - why?
I still like the car much better than anything Ford has done in my lifetime, but it's a shame that the aftermarket will have to pick up the slack in making the car look as it should.

The Mustang design lost a lot during the transition from concept to production. It could still be modified (by the aftermarket) to look a lot better than it does now. I'm looking forward to seeing one in person.
I have to agree with d-mini-ero, that the Ford to have is the GT 40 reincarnation. That is a beautiful piece of design in every aspect, and even better than the original. Yeah, I know, blasphemy, heresy, flames, etc. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

I really like the concept version of this new 'stang. I wonder if it can be gotten without the rear quarter windows for the classic fastback muscle look. And as for the '05 'vette? What HAPPENED? It's starting to look like some dopey Pontiac or something.
