The real waiting begins

A couple of months ago, I signed up for an Audi TT-RS with my friendly local dealer/salesman. A signed buyer's order and held check for deposit put me number one on their list, confirmed by the sales manager. At the time, the car's entrance into the US was still just a rumor, but today AudiUSA made it official. TT-RS, coupe only, manual only, will be available most likely in third quarter of 2011. They're not talking official pricing yet, but a good source says $58500. Unofficial source also says around 600 of them so a customer should be able to personalize their order. I think it's one of the coolest cars in its range to come here, but I'm very impatient and tend to go through cars at a rapid rate. This will truly be a test of my fortitude.

Nice! I didn't know they were coming here. I've seen them in Europe and they are definitely very cool. I would certainly consider owning one.

It's getting closer....and more maddening by the day! The first TT-RS's should be docking at US ports in the next week or so, and price has still not been announced. Audi tracking is not as precise as MINI's, but allegedly mine was built on 7/4, going on the boat today, arriving at the Port of Houston on 7/18, released on 7/25 and delivered around 8/1. I so cannot wait, but the spectre of the price being too high still looms over everything. There have been no firm commitments as to total production for the US market, but only a 100 or so will be here in the first month. Mine will be Sepang Blue with aluminum exterior package, and tech package inside.

Full pricing now released and it's in my comfort zone. But...my port date has been pushed back to 8/8 now.
There are 20+ now on the ground in US ports, but so far none released for delivery yet.

If you dont do the Rieger kit and slam it EXACTLY like this ride....you fail at everything and might as well get a pink Vette....

I hope you're kidding....I don't get the mentality of ruining a car's handling characteristics in the pursuit of a look. There are some on the TT forums running staggered rim/tire sizes (on a FWD/AWD car ????), and lowering them to the point of rubbing.
I would prefer to drive my car briskly thank you.

At last, a voice of reason in the wilderness!

I also do not understand the need to make the car scrape the ground, they're starting to get to silly extremes now - some cars in Japan lay so low they tilt the wheels in at a 15* angle to get them even lower....ridiculous looking things..

Congrats on your new ride, looking forward to pictures!

No..I wasnt kidding. And that TT-RS is not only show...its all go. I know I would take one. And don't kid yourself...people on this site do really ridiculous things to their cars. You are on a Mini Cooper forum nonetheless....

First, that is not a TT-RS. It is some other Gen II variation with a TT-RS front bumper (it says so on the page) and added badges, which is WAY lame I think. I'm still wondering how dropping the suspension until rubbing ocurs helps the handling. I guess your's and mine's ideas about cars are just very different and we can agree to disagree.

I put in an email to SN's creator, Elvis for verification on the RS question. I'm curious as I have talked to him before about it. Dropping the car down to where it rubs of course negatively affects handling but done CORRECTLY.....you wont have rubbing issues. My Mini is tucking wheel and I can gaurantee that my setup will out-perform most Mini's on here in the terms of handling. The setups just have to be done right. Thats all.

mtbscott, definitely need pics when it comes in. I think the stance of the RS's are perfect stock...I wouldn't mess with it either. Congrats on the purchase

From the link itself, "The low and aggressive TT-RS style front bumper and the Rieger side skirts and rear bumper finish the exterior really well." Plus, the very first TT-RS in the US was delivered just over a week ago, that article is dated in 2010.

After a wait of 13 months, I finally picked it up yesterday. Only got to drive around 20 miles so no huge report to tell yet, but initial impressions are great! This thing has a wall of torque (341 ft/lbs) that starts way down around 2K rpms, and even observing a 4500 rpm break-in limit, it's obvious that it's going to be smokin' fast.
It's Sepang Blue, only options are Tech Package, and Matte Aluminum trim package.

The article is misleading. It indeed has an RS-style bumper with Reiger parts and S6 wheels. It is a TT-RS. Plus, that car isnt in the US. It has Audi Santa Monica plates but only to add a USDM flare. The car is in Japan...look at the background. Anyways, have fun driving it....it will be a blast.
